On this day.............in history

In 1964, the Ford Mustang debuts at the World's Fair.  and...

Apollo 13 returned to earth.  On the 11th of that year, we heard, "Huston, we have a problem".

Re: On this day.............in history

I remember that World's Fair.  Was just a kid about 6 or 7.  Certain things I remember about it.  Some of the exhibits had conveyor belts that took you thru and I thought that was the way of the future.  Conveyor belts, flying cars, super healthy food that was ez to prepare.  Ha!!!!

Funny I don't remember the Mustang and I'm sure we must have visited the Ford exhibit.  I remember the big globe of the world at the entrance (forget what they called it).  It was SO exciting.

Went there as a kid.  Flushing Meadow Park wasn't far from where I lived. As a teenager would go there to roller skate. I believe the movie The Wiz was filmed at the park

We went to the worlds fair, and saw the new Mustang.  At the fair you rode in the cars on the conveyor belt to view the new future display.
I really wanted a convertible but later we bought a 1966 beige coupe with black interrior.

My son was born in 1966, I still have the car

Re: On this day.............in history

My famly went the Fair on one of the last days. i was a kid. i remember the cars that drove around in a lake. my mother loved the Dairy exhibit, they had the World' largest cheese in a refrigerated case like we have at the markets now. one gigantic oblong cheese. we rode the monorail and then my parents spent the rest of time in the Belgian Village having cofee and pastries while my sister and i drove these little kiddie cars around the cobblestone streets.  i think there is some 8mm footage in my Dads film canisters.

The Unisphere is still up and  a park now up you can see it from the LIE.  i'll have to plan a future visit
