Freedom of speech.

Is not guaranteed by private entites, such as merchants.   Merchants can prohibit whatever they want to.  Just as this board can make rules that impinge on free speech - QVC is a private company, not the government.  There are no free speech protections.

Not QVC.  Beyond that I don't want to identify the stores or the items.  I just don't want anything said that will be close this post. I was just interested if anyone had found ANYTHING OBJECTABLE at any time and what was the result.

If you haven't found anything objectionable, you are a very different cat from me or haven't been in a store since 1964.  It's life.  I don't make the rules so I don't think much about it and don't buy it.

Yes, I did find something offensive, so I chose not to purchase it.  I didn't do anything beyond that.

Hi @bonnielu I wish you could mention the store.  Have no idea what you're referring to.  I have not seen anything objectionable in stores at any time.

I have no idea either, however I did see a truck driving around yesterday with a confederate flag.  That was offensive.

I'm finding more and more of the world offensive to me. :-)

Most of the time I brush it off. It it seriously offends my sensibilities or strongly held points of view, I may choose to boycott the source of such offense. It will make no diffference other than soothing my soul.

Could be a matter of perception.   Is it hateful or just objectionable to some?

That's the $64,000 question. If it's not "hateful" or highly objectionable to enough people that it gets major media coverage, the retailer honestly pays no mind.

I will not mention the item but there seems to be an abundance of a shirt with a hateful message.  Does anyone have an experience with the process of taking down the item?  And what was the result.  No need to mention anything other than the experience.  Cannot believe retailers are not responsible for what they sell.

@bonnielu

I have no idea what you're talking about, but most retailer websites have a CONTACT US link ..... be sure to use it.

Re: On line and in stores sales of questionable hateful items

Hi @bonnielu,

From my knowledge, retailers generally only keep selling things that customers want to buy. Personally, I am not in favor of boycotts. Speaking out against something I do not like, I am into it. Changing things like "no smoking"? I was successful at that with AT&T before I retired, same with City/County Government Indoor Facility's in our city.

I find lots of objectionable things out and about, but there are way too many for me to actively get involved. Now something disgusting against 1 of my few passions? That I would consider.

In general: Some people just crave attention; and it 'comes out' in various ways and/or actions, good and bad.   That's just the way it is........

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).
