I have been exploring options for on line life long learning.

Do you have any experiences with a particular site?

I would prefer on demand rather than live.

I think you'd enjoy this. I occasionally do online, local community college adult, non-credit classes. I took classes both online and in person. Enjoy online better. Creative writing online was great. Took second class in person and dropped. Stopped going. Different instructors but the online teaching and exercises were better. Same with basic financial class and Spanish. Enjoy!

I don't have any experience in this but I'd love to learn more about opportunities. If I didn't have bills to pay I could have stayed in school forever!

Thare is so much! Every university and community college has at least a few offerings these days, aside from the commercial sites you mention like coursera. And, of course, youtube has lectures and tutorials of all kinds--be focused when you search and you can avoid the scary, sleazy stuff.

I want to suggest you check out openculture.com. This not-for-profit site is massive, and includes more than I can describe. Everything they link to is free. Museums, libraries, schools, media of all kinds. It's constantly updated--I signed up to get the latest every day.

If you look at the column on the right, there is a list of "Essentials." The sections under this heading take you to searchable lists of classes and courses at all levels from elementary school to PhD level. ("MOOCs," by the way, are "massive open online courses from great universities.) You can go to Harvard if you want to.

Not everything is academic subjects, though. Want to see an obscure movie from the 30s? How about a live concert recording of your favorite singer or band from the 70s? Or a famous speech or lecture, or current podcasts, or a walk though a sculpture garden? Want to learn a language? Scroll way, way down and find a list of "Categories."

There's so much on this stie that they almost need a class in how to find it all!
