I don't know if I'll watch.  I like figure skating but the American team does not look good.  Even their gold medal hope Nathan Chen does not look good for gold.  There is a Japanese guy (world champ for the past 3 years in a row) that might knock him over.  The Russian ladies will sweep all 3 medals forr sure.  Those little teens do quads in their sleep.   So you can forget our one medal hopeful. Even ice dancing.  Our last winners have retired and we have a couple that is not so good. And of  course pair skating, which we always did badly.

Skiing we might win gold or a medal with that Bryce Bennet in the downhill.  But I'm not really going to tune in.

I read that all snow at the Olympics will be man-made.  That's kind of sad.

91 countries will be represented at the winter olympics.

wishing all of the athletes, coaches, and their countries a great experience in these competitions ahead! they all work so hard to get here, go for the gold, and to be recognized by the world!

I enjoy the Winter Olympics and I support what the Olympics stands for. But I'm not watching this year.

Many countries have human rights issues and corruption issues (the US included), but China has issues that go well beyond the usual just like Russia and Myanmar and North Korea and many other similarly problematic countries -- that should also be prohibited from hosting the Olympic games.

China should not have been chosen as a location for these games. So the IOC is to blame as well as China's leadership.

The athletes aren't to blame. We can all agree on that.

ETA: I'm very concerned for the security and safety of our athletes.

Always wait for the winter olympics. Won't be watching the Q for two weeks. And why shouldn't they participate, they have given up a private life and been training hard for four years, actually way longer.

Beijing is the first Winter Olympics location to use essentially 100% artificial snow.  It does seem odd to select a host city where large natural snowfalls are not the norm

The first use of man-made snow in some capacity was at Lake Placid in 1980.  It's been used in varying degrees at every location since.

During the 1964 Games at Innsbruck the Austrian army trucked in snow to some events, but at least it was natural snow!

I like to watch ice dancing.  The other figure skating competitions just seem to be a jumping event, most of which result in failure.  I find it nerve wracking to watch.  I prefer the artistic side of skating.

Anyone recall the really old days of competitive figure skating when judges closely watched and scored skaters on making compulsory figures, like circles and figure 8s?

It use to makeup a large percentage of overall scoring, but declined in popularity over the years and was completely eliminated from competition by 1990.

Austrian Trixi Schuba excelled in the figures, winning multiple World titles and the 1972 Gold due to her technical prowess.
