Yes, but you have to remember that was only the US gymnastics team that the abuse happened to not every country was involved in that scandal so why punish every sport/country for something that happened to one group (and yes it was horrible for what happened to all of the ladies involved).

@Gorgf

Will add a personal experience to my other post. I decided I wanted to participate in 2 of our State Winter Olympic Games. Entered the oldest class in speed skating, which at that time was 50 and up. I was 55 and 59 in those Olympic Games.

The competition races were a 100 meter/200 meter, and a 400 meter race. They were on an NHL regulation size ice rink, which is measured at 200'X85' size.

To get exact Meters measured, they had to put cones to make it easier to get the exact distances. The rink then was narrower and much shorter. Turning more often is not conducive to skating as fast you can on a longer straight surface.

Took some practices during warmup to try to gauge how to best keep your speed while  turning in a pretty short radius. It was all done before the start of the actual racing, so not much time to change much in my skating.

To me it was an honor to compete with other athletes from other states, and meet a lot of new skating people. In the 100 meter all skaters took off together. In the 200 and 400, they used staggered starts. Each skater had a person timing their laps, and total time. They also were letting us know which lap we were on, and/or, laps we had remaining.

Was a great experience I will never forget, and my being a Ref and skating 5-6 days a week sure was a benefit to me.

I'll definitely be watching and cheering on all the athletes. Most have been training since they were kids. The olympics is each one's dream and I'm so proud of every American who got on the team -- and all those who trained hard but didn't make the team. I support every American Olympian. It doesn't matter to me what country they're competing in, I support our Olympic team and will be cheering them on from my living room.

I enjoy curling....I don't know why cuz it's kinda boring. Love ice dancing and pairs skating, skiing and ski jumping. All that talent and training! Love Shaun White and his flips and spins. Bob sledding and luge events wow me. I'll stay up all night sometimes to watch. I'm so proud of all our Olympians, I could burst.

No will not be watching at all. You have to stand for something or you will fall for anything. I feel bad for the hard working athletes but somethings are more important. I love the Winter Olympics so normally.

Wrong is still wrong just because you benefited from it.

I love the Olympics period.  So much physical talent.  You can see all the hard work and training these people have gone through.  The parents too, have gone through a lot to get the kids there.  I just love them.  Oh, the Luge!!!

@debfau   There is more to consider besides the US gymnastics tems as to why people will not support the Olympics this year.

I will not watch for a variety of reasons-top of the list is (lack of) human rights.

Since we cannot get political here, I'll leave it at that.

The IOC is notoriously corrupt. I am afraid for the athletes due to the Covid crisis as well as our country supporting a country with so many human rights issues. Hope I am not poofed, but I think there are more reasons to not watch than to watch, and I will miss it. For years I have loved watching the ski and ice skating performances.

I've haven't watched the Olympics for twenty plus years for a variety of reasons, many of which have been mentioned here.
