I absolutely loved the opening ceremonies. Paris is an elegant city and the French "joie de vive " was very present. This is the best opening I have witnessed.

I'm enjoying it, especially the boats. I think it works quite well.

Nice to see the genuine excitement of all of the athletes,  unhampered by the rain.

The illuminated Eiffel Tower with the Olympic Rings is breathtaking!  I appreciate the showcasing of the City's landmarks.

The only thing I don't understand is Kelly Clarkson, who seems to bring just about nothing to the table.

Gidgetgh I agree completely about the boats. Watching the athletes march into the stadium and the crowds reaction was always the highlight of the ceremony.

I cheated and turned it on a few minutes ago, DH and I will watch it together tonight. We love Paris and have worn out many shoes walking those streets during our visits so we are looking forward to watching the ceremony. I am also so uncertain about the lack of walking in the parade into the stadium, that is always so emotional to me.

Been watching it live and recording. I feel so sorry for the athletes who have to stand around and listen to these long winded speeches. The close ups show how bored and tired many of them are. Fiddling with stuff, looking around, one French athlete rolling his flag around the wooden post it's on and so on.

Most of this stuff could have been said in a lot fewer words. Guess these guys just love the sound of their own voices.

I am sick of Kelly Clarkson. I don’t watch her show or anything she is on, and yet I still see too much of her.
