At 112 ! He would have been 113 this coming May 11. When asked the secret of his longevity he said, "keep living...don't die". Truer words have not been spoken, IMO, LOL. He has an interesting story on the internet. What a life well lived.

@shoekitty If you are referring to Richard Overton, he was the oldest living WWII vet and it is believed that he is the oldest person in the USA.
His "secret" was a daily cigar and whiskey. He could be spotted on his front porch in Austin, TX, smoking his daily cigar.
And why did you start two threads????

Oh crud! I didn't know I started two threads. I will see if I can delete one.
ETA. I deleted it, but this site is slow tonight...or my laptop. I clicked delete and it spun and spun, thinking, maybe 3 mins. Finally I lost patience and clicked, back, while it was spinning, I thought I would try again, but it was deleted.

Pretty amazing!
Isn't John McCain's mother 107? I thought she looked good considering her age during his funeral.

Not to worry, easy to do, and the board is slow tonight.

John mccains mom is amazing. I watched an interview of her at 102, and zi was just so taken by her clarity. You would never know. Great DNA for sure.

Richard Overton was in his 30's when he volunteered for the Army, and was at Pearl Harbor just after the Japanese attack in 1941. He served in the all-black 1887th Engineer Aviation Battalion.
He was in the hospital with pneumonia, but was released Christmas Eve. The family said doctors had "done all they could."
Rest in Peace Sir.

My grandfather took a shot of whiskey every night before he went to bed. He said, "it's good for the heart". He didn't live to 112 but he did live to 84...which 40 yrs. ago was pretty long to live.
