BBC...Dr Findley...from the 1990's but very interesting characters, set on scotland...most episodes end without a final determination...leave you to ponder the choices made by the characters
and
A Place to Call Home--Ausrtalian serial soap opera type. Great character development. Australian TV seems to allow more controversial issues to be delt with. The scenery is great.

I don't know whether this counts, but we have been known to binge on Netflix or Amazon Prime older series.

Really enjoyed that show.
Just finished binging on The Sopranos (I had never watched it)
Now watching A French Village (about a village during and after the German occupation)

The complete British series Time Team is available on Amazon Prime video. A team of archaeologists goes and performs small scale digs at different sites in England, and they've got just three days to do it. It was on the BBC for many many many years.
It's so fun to watch! I've seen most of the episodes two or three times now.
If you search for it, don't let the spooky graphic with a skull on it give you the wrong impression. Sometimes they do find a skeleton on a dig, but it's not scary and they treat it with respect. It's a very bright and happy show.

West Wing. I missed it when it was first on. I would call it a liberal fantasy but every episode makes me feel good. I want Jed Bartlett for President.

We started watching Dr Finlay but it was just one long propaganda series for the NHS which got tiresome.
We do like a lot of the old Brit series though. Lovejoy, Rumpole of the Bailey, Taggart are quite good. Another favorite was A Touch of Frost. We get a lot of Brit, Australian and Canadian series by subscribing to Acorn and Britbox.
ETA: another long running and wholesome series is Where the Heart Is. The district nurses are a litlle too nosy and bossy for my taste but we still enjoyed it.
