@Mominohio  the great thing in your community is that the Amish won't notice at all !

On a more serious note I wrote down the retail hours of a local dairy to get milk. They open their retail store 3 days a week.

Funny you mention it, as I was thinking about them and this situation.

They actually do a lot of grocery buying, especially junk foods and pop.

I know they do keep informed about things going on, and I wonder if they have hired drivers and made a big run to the stores.

Most of them don't even come close to preserving enough of their own food to feed themselves exclusively any more. A few full farms still do, but most around us are now going out to work and don't really farm full scale.

I'm sure they will pull together and take care of their own, though.

@Mominohio The Amish here do sell a lot of what they can. Hopefully they saved enough but I'm sure they will be fine.

What concerns me more, is how unprepared everyone is. I know you stock up, but seeing people freak out without the basic staples is concerning. We had warning, imagine if we didn't.

Many people do not have the money to stock up on even the basics,  Now some are finding themselves out of work.

@Mominohio NO people didn't have warning they were going to shut down all food sources....and in the last few days people cleaned out everything in the local stores.  The people that bought things a few weeks prior bought tons and are selling it online so they can make a quick buck....$50 TP rolls on ebay and higher.

Lot's of people can't afford to buy 8weeks worth of food....my local news is showing people trying to pack up breakfast or lunches for the school kids who are off now at home and were on that reduce lunch/food program to feed.  So shutting everything down because you have enough is not the solution for the rest of the US population.

Restaurants and bars and nightclubs are different from retail.  People sit for hours and hours.  The idea is to "break the back" of the spread by clamping down on close contacts.

Most retail is a rapid exchange, although some will close down on their own.  Abercrombie & Fitch, for example, is closing all locations temporarily.  That being said, if I went into a retailer I wouldn't wait on a long line.

But we were told that in order to avoid the "exponential spread" of this virus, we must maintain at least 6 feet of distance - how do you do that in a store, in lines.  And again - what you would do doesn't matter - these are now edicts for everyone.

Anyone who has gone grocery shopping knows it is not a "rapid exchange".  Could have had a burger and beer while waiting in line this weekend.

I completely understand that. We are a one income family.

I've been buying two or three things at a time for the last few weeks when I can find things.  No lines.  Rather rapid exchanging.

Because it is not a problem for you, the problem does not exist.  Got it .

Re: Ohio closing all bars and restaurants ......

I am in Illinois and same as Ohio, restaurants and bars closed, food for pickup and delivery only.  Wish they had done it before Saturday and all those kids in and out of different bars, ubers, and briging the virus back to Mom and Dad and Grandma and Grandpa.  I had an argument with my friend - I thought they should have closed the bars Saturday and she just laughed at me.  She still thinks this is a big joke.  Nobody is going to tell her where she can and cannot go.

I took this seriously from the start and I can ony hope and pray that things will improve.

@MominohioHe also said that three weeks may not be enough time for schools to be closed. I am glad to see comments here from other states and what they are doing. I was beginning to wonder if Ohio was really being proactive or becoming the laughing stock of the nation.

@hellokitty   I've actually seen national news reports that praised Gov. DeWine for being proactive and remaining calm in Ohio.  Other states are actually following the lead of Ohio.

The Governors of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut have agreed on an unprecedented plan to coordinates closures with a uniform standard.

All 3 states with limit crowds of over 50, close casinos, movie theaters, gyms and limit bars and restaurants to delivery and take-out.

The idea is to prevent "state-shopping", someone driving around looking for one of these services.

Grocery stores in all three will remain open (for now.)
