Re: Oh my gosh! this almost brings me to tears...Alex Trebek

I can't say that I was a fan of Alex Trebek but I did admire his professional demeanor and I think he brought a certain "classiness" to the game show.

I don't think I'm overly fan-crazy about any celebrities, but I will be sad to see Morgan Freeman leave us some day.  And Tom Hanks (he's still pretty young though).  And Patrick Stewart.  (Call me sentimental!)

Man plans. God laughs.

Re: Oh my gosh! this almost brings me to tears...Alex Trebek

Some posters are really taking this thread to extremes. Just because someone admires a public persona doesn't mean s(he) thinks that person is perfect, a hero, infallible or any of the other claims made.

It also doesn't lessen admiration for any private citizen.  One doesn't negate the other.

It's a shame that a simple news item about Alex Trebek has turned into this.  The last person who thought he was perfect or "anything special" was Alex himself.  He just wanted to be remembered as a "good person".  Pretty reasonable.
