THE TEMP HERE IS -10 AND IT FEELS LIKE -26. THE WIND IS HOWLING AND THE SNOW IS BLOWING. NOT SAFE TO BE OUTDOORS  OR DRIVING IMHO.

Re: Oh my gosh, the wind

It's -9F where I live (Indiana), and the wind chill is 40 below zero. The furnace can't keep up and it hasn't shut off all night. It's only 4 years old so I'm hoping it will be OK. I live in a lake community and it's almost like a forest here with trees. Less than 2 feet outside my living room walls are two large oak trees, they are probably 75 year old and I can see them swaying in the wind. These homes were all built in the 1950's so the electrical cables aren't buried underground. All it takes is 1 tree to fall and we'll be without power. I hate winter.

My gosh, I woke up this morning to the noise of the wind, & checked my porches.  This wind has turned everything on my porches into "ammo" at the neighbors & drivers!  Had to secure them all down.

But at least Im not suffering thru all the other scary conditions that others in USA are experiencing as a result of this storm.

Prayers for the safety of those experiencing this weather, & prayers for minimal to no negative after effects.   In fact, while I'm on my knees, perhaps turn this storm into any enhanced Climate Conditions, for instance, supply more healthy water to those geo areas that have been lacking.

At my condo in Tamarac, FL it is currently 76 and partly cloudy!  I hope to get down there sometime over the winter.

Here in SE PA, It is also very rainy and windy but in the 40s.  It's supposed to go up to 58 but then will suddenly get very cold tonight.  It will go down into the teens.

I'm just so glad that when it does get very cold it will be clear & sunny....if it were cold right now we would be getting a lot of snow or freezing rain!

In Connecticut, it was sooooo windy, I didn't sleep a wink last night! There is so much damage in town, but we were very lucky. Phase 2 is coming this afternoon.

I've tried to harness down any outdoor items so they dont blow thru some neighbors car, or home windows, & such

I keep looking outside to keep an eye on any of this "flying cannon fodder," & I just discovered, my very heavy, city trash bins, on the ground, are being carried away, moved even, with this wind!  This is a 1st for me   I mean they cld do some kind of major damage!   WOW!

It's 12F right now. (5:30pm) Wind has died down a little.  Wind chill is 2F.  No snow.  We don't usually have snow in December anyway.  So long s the wind calms down, we should be OK.  I'd hate though if we did have snow at the same time.  I would feel very isolated.

I think we've lost some porch items, etc.  Just blew away.

It never got higher than 13 today. I opened the door a few times, looking for packages, but just could not convince myself to go anywhere, that's how I am in the cold. I hate it so much.  It affects what I am willing to go out and do.

The mail isn't here yet.  I'll have to drive up to get it when it comes.  I feel horrible for all delivery people today.

Tomorrow, I have to get out.  I want to go to my husband's grave, a Christmas Eve day thing for me.  I can park right there and I'm literally there for 3 minutes or less.

And I want to go to church.....I think. They're having 4 services. I've ruled out the 11 PM service.  I don't think it's smart for a 67 year old woman alone, driving home at midnight in 9 degree weather.  Plus, I never stay up that late.

So that leaves 3 other services and it's just so blasted cold.  Somewhere in there I need to make a casserole to take to my sister's house on Christmas, when, once again, it's going to be frigid and she lives 45 minutes away.

Next weekend, it's supposed to be close to 70 degrees.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

We have 3 bird feeders and 1 suet holder.

This morning I was watching the poor birds trying to hang onto the feeders as the wind was blowing the feeders around.

Later in the day one of the feeders had fallen onto the ground. So most of the birds were standing on the ground eating the food that had fallen. I guess they were tired of trying to hang onto the feeder as it moved around, and eat the bird food. They preferred to stand on the ground.

It has beconne a popular spot. Yesterday we even had a hawk. He wasn't able to get any of the bird food. The holders weren't designed for that big of a bird.

We got tired of watching the finches and little birds miss out on the birdfood. The starlings seemed to take over. So we bought 2 finch feeders and one feeder for the larger birds.

The Hawks don't come to the bird feeders for the food, they come for the birds.   At least that's been my experience.  I've never seen them eat bird food but I've seen them snatch a bird and eat it.
