It is howling and pouring out here (NY area) and I have been up since 2:00 am.  Cannot go back to sleep with all the noise and dread when it gets light out hoping there is no damage in the area.

I have a Jack Russell and I never have to worry about taking her out in any kind of bad weather, during the night or when we are not home for a few hours.  I always keep pee wee pads down so she can go whenever she likes.  I would never subject her to harsh weather or make her hold it in.  She goes anytime she has to and she is warm and happy.

@lovesallanimals Having a smaller dog is an advantage at a time like this! We have large Lab/Great Pyrenese mix, no way he can use pee pads! Also, he is a bit of a fraidy-dog, and won't "go" unless someone is outside with him...so today should be interestesting, as we have high winds and lots of trees for branches to fall out of!

Ok, so I got out of bed, put on heavy socks and leggings, tucked my cute as a button nightshirt into my leggings, put on a heavy cardigan and took a very brief, brisk walk around the entire outside of my house. Everything looked fine.

The wind is insane. I am hoping that, except for driving to the front of my community to get my mail later, that will be the last time I leave the house today.

I am happy to report that I am now back in bed, playing on my iPad.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

@gidgetghI'm near Buffalo, NY, and it's 8am, the wind is ramping up fast and snow is falling past our window sideways. Our horses are safely tucked away in the barn and I have an extra heat lamp on my old girl chickens.  Everyone stay safe.

@gidgetgh

Good idea to check those "noises" but it may just be the contracting of the wood of your house.  It has been pretty mild, temperature wise, here.  But when we get these quick, sudden drops in temperature, my house and deck make some pretty strange, and sometimes loud noises.  Cracks, creaks and rattles.  All harmless but worrying.

We even get ground noises sometimes when we have these temperature drops.  They are called frost quakes.

These cold temperatures are just spooky!🥶😩🤣😉

@4kitties - yes, harmless, but worrying, especially when you hear them at 2 AM.  Things that go bump in the night and all, LOL.

Yes, the wind sure can disturb your sleep because the gusts and howls come and go. Hope you can nap today.

My house is two story with all bedrooms upstairs.  The bedroom on the southwest corner has the strangest "whistling" sound when the wind is high and coming from a certain direction.

This was my youngest daughters bedroom and it would really scare her when she was young!

I'm in NW Ohio.  Not much snow, but the wind is terrible. It is 0 deg, wind chill of -24, wind gusts to 40 mph.  Yes, I heard a lot of noises thru the night, too!

I am in the house with all the drapes closed to hold in the heat.  Just hope the power doesn't go out.  That always worries me.  I have a gas fireplace, so if the power does go out, guess I will huddle around that.

Stay warm and safe, everyone.

@BalletBabe  Sounds to me like your temp's are like a day at the spa to most of the U.S.  Count your blessings !

@sarahpanda   You have to understand that when you live in a warm climate and you get hit with temps like this , It is like you getting a lot colder.  We are not used to it.
