Odd beginning for instacart

[ Edited ]

I placed an order earlier to instacart.  It was a big order.  After about 90 minuets or so, my shopper had finished.  But I kept waiting for him to signal though my phone that he was on his way.  Finally I just got a message.  My shopper was in an accident.  He didn't indicate whether it was a car accident or just plain other accident.  He's being treated.  So my order probably won't come for another hour or so. That's the first time that ever happened!  I hope he's OK.  I wonder if they get any medical insurance?

I suppose when you're driving all day that happens.

Oh my, that is a shame.  I wonder how often that happens.

Update on the accident.  Another shopper had to take over.  So the shopper had to do the entire order again!  I guess that's how they have to do it, if they become your shopper and get paid.  She was good.  She double checked the order was correct.  After it was delivered, I had to call instacart to let them know what happend and that the order was corect. Whew!

I believe these people are independent contractors, so just hope his car insurance has medical coverage.

@depglass Instacart is pretty good.  I've been with them now ....oh about 5 months or so.  Since the beginning of pandemic.  They're great.  Never, never had anything bad happen with my orders.  This is the most trouble, but it wasn't anyone's fault.  Car accidents happen.  I'm sure the guy was insured.  I mean if you drive cars for a living, that's what you do.

I live in a state (MI) that had mandatory medical coverage on car policies, even for people like us with duplicating coverage through Medicare and secondary insurance.  Just recently the courts allowed people to drop their medical and go without anything if they choose.
