I totally agree with you. As you think back at some of the stars in the 50's and 60's they are better looking as they got older than when they were young. Yes, they do look great and we get sagging skin and old........ugh.........and I am not having any work done, first I can't afford it and second a friend of mine years ago was a plastic surgeon and he said I would not ever be a good canidate for a face lift the way my skins wuold heal.........well, that shot that out the windw, I knew he would be honest with me but I hate getting wrinkles and I only have tiny ones and very little but my mother and grandmother made such a big deal about not aging and they did not age but pain and stress and divorces and a head injury and being in the sun WILL AGE YOU.......so I am hanging on eating noodles and using Perricone cream.........my sister thinks that she is going to do that.......I do have ladies tell me at the skin counter to stay on the perricone it is working for me.......I hope so I am going broke.

It's too bad that "aging well" seems to be all about appearance.
I think aging well means living a full and productive life and being a person your friends and loved ones would be proud of.

I'm watching The View and John Stamos is on. He has to be 50ish and looks GOOD!!! Maybe he has had work done, but I don't care!

Women have always been held to higher standards of youthful good looks because society has deemed women as sex objects, and this is a perception that has, sadly, not made much progress even into the 21st century. This view is perpetuated by the entertainment media and by women themselves.
Consequently, a man's skin can develop wrinkles and crags, he can develop a paunch and still be considered attractive, but a woman has to retain that youthful and sexy look for as long as she can. The more youthful she looks, the more attractive she is according to society's standards.
Argue if you want. That's my take on it. :-)

A man gets distinguished with age, a woman is just getting old. Tom Selleck is still good looking and Sean Connery was a leading man probably into his 60's.
I guess if it is said enough, people will continue to believe that men just look distinguished with age. However, there are plenty of women who age just as gracefully as a man does. I see it all the time in the real world.
Tom Selleck looks paunchy even though I am a fan and Sean Connery looks every bit his age. Robert Redford is another actor who looks his age. The idea that men age better than women, for myself, is just a myth.
I think the plastic surgery he had around his eyes and that awful ratty orange wig he wears make him really look bad!! What a shame! He was sooooooooooo good looking when he was younger!!!!!
