I think this idea was followed by the 50 Over 50 concept started a few years ago by Forbes with Mika Brzezinski.  Of course different than the Q's programming.  50 Over 50 highlights entrepreneurs, leaders, scientists, fashion icons, etc. who are achieving their greatest success when they are 50+, rejecting the idea that their best years are behind them.  Kind of the same concept though.

What is the gender breakdown  stated in that Forbes article?  What were the parameters of their results or did they just pick 50 successful candidates over 50?   We have to question ALL claims put out by the media, right?

Just my two cents. I hate the whole campaign. I don’t watch any of those specific shows. And Mally and JT are an instant channel change.

The Q has been in financial distress for several years (see below). The over-50 campaign is an effort to correct the sinking ship!

Qurate Retail, the parent company of QVC and HSN, has been facing financial challenges in recent quarters:

  • Revenue decline
In the first quarter of 2024, Qurate's revenue dropped 11% year-over-year to $2.34 billion. In the second quarter, revenue at the QxH division, which includes QVC U.S. and HSN, fell 4% to $1.56 billion.

  • Net loss
In the fourth quarter of 2023, Qurate reported a net loss of $273 million, compared to a loss of $51 million in the same quarter the previous year.

  • Operating income
In the first quarter of 2024, Qurate's operating income fell 18% year-over-year to $145 million.

@christikate Thank you for the financial details.  It will be interesting to see if this "You are over 50" campaign is working to increase sales.

IMO, it's a waste of time and energy to scrutinize something so intensely and get so worked up over it. Everyone is so easily offended by the least little thing these days. 🫤

Your life experiences are different from everyone else's. We don't know what each person has gone through in life to flavor their opinions or have certain things trigger them.

Oh boy, start passing out the bubble wrap. 🙄

If someone has certain triggers, it's up to the individual to know what to avoid and not expect the rest of the world to bend over backwards and kowtow, to accommodate every possibility.  That's an IMpossibility at any age.

The lack of compassion is sad.

I agree that a number of posters are reading much too much into a simple brand awareness campaign, making more out of it than actually exists.

Much ado.

Mansplaining irritates me.  Men have never walked in a woman's shoes in the media, politics, workplace, social lives, society, etc etc etc.

You can post your opinion. It's a free country so far. Just be aware that a man very often sound mansplaining when it comes to women's issues.
