Re: OT/My brother is in critical condition after car accident, prayers needed please

I was here late yesterday-late. I had posted some information worthwhile but it never went through. These things often happen on many forums, so I will continue on from last evening. I send my deepest condolences learning about your mother-in-law. How very heavy this burden weighs with so many unexpected forces that takes us to a darker place.

With pneumonia settling in, is not an unusual secondary health issue, especially when the patient is not responding to just one antibiotic. I have no way to know if [they] have started Tommy on another family of antibiotics. Also, with Tommy lying down, the chances are more prevalent, but I do understand the staff has to be cautious since he just had back surgery side to side with the femur repair. I would ask if there was any breathing exercises being done or any respiratory treament being given. Have some one in charge ask questions- and what are the next steps? Since I am not reading back but remembering from 2 days ago, I believe he was to be sitting up? Is Tommy still in ICU or... in a floor room, at the hosptial?

I had asked last evening (when post did not go through) would it be possible for your sister to be there once more during this critical time? I know that your mother is certainly not able according to what you have said. I will check in again to ask whether Tommy has been put on a stronger antibiotic. Fluids are IV'd around the clock, I would certainly come to believe. It is very difficult when we get pieces of information what is going on.

I am no stranger when patients having either pneumonia or UTI, especially in this situation. I remember telling you this -'the antibiotics would be for any pneumonia that could occur'. I know you that the more stressors you have, the worse your back pain flares up. I will cut this short (time pending on these boards)and wait for any updates. I do hope that SISTER can make another trip as a spokesperson asking questions. is the caregiver coming in all of the time or leaving everything to the staff. I have no idea if he-she is a nurse or could be a spokesperson-asking, sending news back to you.

I continue with my daily prayers for Tommy, you and your husband, Yes, it has been some week for your family. Sending positive thoughts, through God, to you.

Do you know, at any time-(10 minutes) if anyone there was told of water in his lungs?

Re: OT/My brother is in critical condition after car accident, prayers needed please

Thanks so much everyone and boy are the prayers helping. Tommy had a much better day, responding to al the antibiotics and even was able to eat some food today.I was able to speak to him on the phone tonight,it was wonderful. He is confused but with all the meds nd trauma they say thats normal. He is being fitted for a neck and back brace and may be sitting up tomorrow in bed.Its boing to be a long recovery with good and bad days but I know of not for everyones prayers,I wouldn't have been talking to him tonight.

MY MIL's funeral was this morning and I cried when my hubby told me about it. She had everything written down as to what she wanted in great detail, very simple service and buried next to her husband. Such an amazing woman, loved her like she was my Mother. DH is on standby for a flight tomorrow instead of Sat as I am not feeling too good, not just the back but my RA is bad.Thank you all so much and please pay for Tommy.

Names you really have such medical knowledge,Tommy did have water in his lungs, lots of pond water, dirty pond water. Sepsis form it but they feel they have it under control. His lungs are weak being one lung was punctured and he is a quadrapalegic. My sister is leaving NC tomorrow after work to go see Tommy. I am worried about her too as she is 54 and works hard and its been very tough on her.I said I want to come up but she said it would be more of a problem right now then a help so down the road I will go when he is probably in rehab. The hospital is not good for my immune system.

Still no Pal either and I cry everyday for him too. What a month this has been,

Re: OT/My brother is in critical condition after car accident, prayers needed please

I definitely want to tell you this: I am so proud, very thankful for your devoted sister's ability to be there. And hearing that she is on her way, again...I know she will be more familiar -ASKING QUESTIONS than anyone else in your family. She absolutely is giving very sound advice; ref. your body's health would become more inclined to be at risk....from anything in the hospital having a poor immune system. If you can continue with a few minutes on the phone, speaking to Tommy is an added piece of the healing process, now. I can and do understand why you would like to be there but you (probably) would be worse within a few days, than before you leave your home. The trig. inj. will help you so much by lessening the pain from a flared RA. I think the idea of when Tommy is in rehabilitation. Also, remember in ICU, the care is strictly nurses.

Remembering back after this happened, I thought it best to tell you the recovery will be many weeks. At this point the main focus will be for heavy duty observation that your brother never comes in contact with any type of sepsis, especially mrsa...BLUNT AND PLAIN!

The better news I am hearing is that Tommy may be sitting up, the more the better. Hopefully the neck and back brace will be ready to wear immediately.
Also, I hope sister will ask to speak to either the doctor or head nurse (ICU) and actually learn exactly where he is with the antibiotics, along with questions i.e., are bedside Xrays being done -HOW long and what do they mean by se Psis. Did [they] change to another antib. or still maintaining the same one. More xrays to dertermine -showining no pneumonia. I am not speaking of the injured lung that was punctured totally. You said [they] feel 'they' have it under control (?). That is why I said the xray will determine this! Also the question of a read out of white bl. cells, and to explain it to your sister.

......beauty 'j', you know that if anyone could know the tears of a beloved pet not showing, it would be me.

I have told my husband, from the last three days about this horrific test of endurance that you and your family have undergone. We do have prayers. If you have come this far, then you are stronger than you realize. Personally, I applaud you for such love you show for your brother and the concern in worrying about your -yes- dear sister.

We will continue with prayers throughout the days, and bless the moments of any positive reports- day -to- day.

You may have your opportunity, soon, I pray, to be at the side of your brother. I can see you standing there with a spoon in hand... ~ all ready~
