Thought #2 - the high RE season is different from place to place - where I am in southern Florida, the high season draws to a close very soon instead of wanting to open up as in tn other climates.
Thought #3 - knowing at least a bit about where events are taking places helps me put thatose events into a perspective that makes sense to me. That's true for me even in good times, but really essential right now.
@millieshops, that feeling of security is misguided, to put it mildly.
I agree-ask Louisiana

I’m in Louisiana, which is why I take this so seriously. Orleans Parish is giving Italy a run for its money. Governor declared a State of Emergency today.

People don't buy and sell houses just for fun. Sometimes you have to look, sell, buy.
This! I have sympathy for anyone in this situation now. People have to follow through with long time plans that may involve new jobs, or moving for family reasons.

@millieshops wrote:@shoesnbagsThe last map I saw last evening was still showing states with less virus in the whole state than we have in just my county - and maybe less virus than we have deaths in my area. I didn't catalog that.
I am not complacent at all - was just pointing out why some people in some places might not think social distancing is as serious as I've decided it is for me.
I understand your point, but just wanted to correct that one statement you made. I think it’s so important that we not spread any misinformation at this point, and you said there were states with “virtually no virus.” That means zero cases, which is not true.
@shoesnbags, the fact is that so-called numbers don't give us the whole story. Unless were to wall off every state and/or city, the numbers are going to rise -- maybe even we did take such a drastic and impractical step.
And if we don't continue all the strong mandates, all of us are in danger.

Maybe there isn't an option. Perhaps they're being relocated or perhaps they purchased a new home before this slop hit the fan and now have to move. Sometimes, choice isn't a factor. None of us could have predicted this fiasco nor that it would be managed so badly.

Actually in the N. VA area the market has been hot. My sister's settlement attorney cancelled (afraid to leave house) and she thought they were gonna have to postpone but the found someone to do it so it's scheduled end of month. Her daughter just bought a townhouse and their closing is also the end of the month. My sister/BIL had put offers on 4 homes and lost all to multiple offers so they are renting for a year.

@shoesnbagsWe're not disagreeing about anything except the definition of the word VIRTUALLY. To me "virtually" says almost, so when I said "virtually no cases in some areas, in my mind that's true. NY, for example, has something over 25,000 cases already, the part of Florida where I live my winters has about 2,000 confirmed.
To me, that means a state that has 5 cases or even 15, is so far down of the spectrum, that they have "virtually no" cases. Doesn't mean none, doesn't mean they can't already be reinfecting each other, just means that it's somewhat understandable that people in those areas might well feel safer than I do.
BTW - I was "virtually certain" I knew the meaning of my post, but just in case the definition had changed in the last 20 years, I did check the definition in an online dictionary - if I'd been absolutely certain, I would not have checked. My old English classroom habits still control me.

My son and daughter in law have been looking to purchase a home since last October. It is definitely a sellers market. They have made offers on 2 homes and didn' t get either of them, even offering the asking price. There were 16 offers on the second house!! The area they are seeking has a great school district and is very family friendly. The homes are upper middle class and they are already approved for their mortgage. They definitely didn't expect this to be a challenge!

Thanks for explaining. You are right - virtually means almost. I took it to mean absolutely, which is not correct. Please excuse my addled brain. I’m afraid this virus stress is getting to me. Today Louisiana lost one person to the Coronavirus every two hours, and our governor declared a state of emergency. New Orleans metro area is the center of the outbreak, so I am definitely on edge. May we all get through this safe and sound!
