Re: O/T: Do You Stand In Line oe On Line?

It's obviously "in line" to everyone. Not to say that I have ever, in my entire life heard anyone say they are standing "on line". The few who might say that are just using very poor grammar.

"In" line here, too. The only time I waited "on" line was back during my dial-up internet days. And well... sometimes here on those slow-loading days.

IN line when I'm waiting behind others.

ONline when I'm using the computer.

I stand "in line"!

Lots of people in the south say ride "on" the car, not ride "in" the car, LOL! A friend of mine & I would really get into it about this phrase!

I ride "in" the car!

Re: O/T: Do You Stand In Line oe On Line?

I wait 'in' line and I've heard the 'wait on me' as opposed to 'wait for me' here in PA. I've always thought it sounded as though they were wanting to be served, as in a restaurant setting. I like 'wait up' better than 'hold up', which sounds like a crime to my ears. Some youngsters here will say 'on mistake', rather than 'by mistake' - comparable to 'on purpose', I guess.

If you Google the phrase, it's definitely a New York, regional lexicon.
