Four labor and delivery nurses from an Atlanta hospital are under fire for filming a controversial TikTok video in which they shared their grievances about expecting mothers and their families.
.
Dressed up from head to toe in their medical scrubs, the video captures all four nurses sharing their complaints, or “icks” about their maternity patients.
.
“My ick is when you come in for your induction, talking about, ‘Can I take a shower and eat?’” one nurse says in the viral video. “My ick is when you ask me how much the baby weighs and it’s still in your hands,” a second nurse admits.
.
According to NBC News, all four medical staffers are employees of Emory University Hospital Midtown. They were participating in the popular “ick” trend that has been exploding across TikTok, where users share what bothers them about a person or situation. Initially, people were using the fad to describe why they stopped dating their significant other, but the trend has since evolved.
.
Further along in the video, another nurse says that her “ick” is when a mother says she doesn’t want pain medication “but you are at an eight out of 10 pain,” while another staffer complains about family members coming up to the nurse’s station “every five minutes” to check in on their loved one.
.
.
After the video went viral, Emory Healthcare released a statement noting that they were aware of the “disrespectful and unprofessional comments,” shared in the TikTok post. “We have investigated the situation and taken appropriate actions with the former employees responsible for the video.”
The company added, “This video does not represent our commitment to patient-family-centered care.”

They should never have posted this on TikTok. One can have complaints about their job, but to post anything like this on social media is stupid. I don't blame the hospital for firing them. One doesn't criticize their workplace in public unless they want to lose their job.

I saw this as well; pretty despicable-anyone that's had a baby feels pretty vulnerable, they don't need nurses making fun of them. I won't go into detail, but I had a horrible experience with a few nurses when I had my twins....luckily I also had some great nurses as well during the week I was there. Not all nurses are created equal.

You have to wonder why these nurses were in that profession. Perhaps a change of career is in order. Oh yes! They're "former employees".
Shame on them.

😲I wish I had a head shaking no emoji!😐 This is beyond appalling! Thankfully, the article does not state that they named names. That would have been an egregious HIPAA violation! While I support free speech, I do not support STUPIDITY and INDECENCY!

Unimaginable, when playing on TikTok becomes more important than professional ethics and truly authentic caring for one's patients. Shame on these nurses. Had I ever participated in anything like this, I would have been fired on the spot. Deservedly.
Are there 'ick' moments in rendering care. You bet, but they aren't 'ick' to the patient who is trying to cope with a new, often scary experience. Our job is to be patient, listen, answer every question and reassure. Patients and their families are not joke material.
I'm embarrassed for these nurses. I had such pride in my work, as did my team and my DH in his role, which took his life. I hate to see anyone tarnishing the reputation of dedicated nurses. If this is the way things are 'evolving,' we're in trouble.

As despicable as the actions of these women are they do not represent the values of most nurses or other medical professionals. Thankfully Emory took care of them and they are former employees.
I don't think this is the way things are evolving, this is just a group of stupid women who really should find another career. they do not deserve the title of nurse.

Working with the public sucks. Their job is hard and thankless. I get it.

How unprofessional and immature!
A nurse should be a caring person. Not someone who has no compassion for their patients.
My "ICK" would be stupid, immature people who are supposed to have some feelings and compassion for those in their care!
