It sure does NOT conserve energy in states with warm climates! In the hot summer time with Daylight Saving Time the sun doesnt set until almost 10PM and the air conditioner is humming and doesnt get a break until the way after the sun goes down and the temperature outside has a chance to cool off.....

All of this darkness is awful to me, so stretch those summer days out as long as we possibly can. I love DST!
I'd bet you'd love to pay my electric bill here in Texas during the HOT summer months with LONG HOT days....

I love it when the clocks go back. I love the darkness, and the feeling of drawing in close to the fire ,and the cold ,and the frost. The stars look brighter ,and this time of the year is intense, and filled with anticipation for me

How does it affect the electric bill? There isn’t more heat?

Fortunately down here it doesn't get dark at 4:00 as it did back home. I used to dislike it getting so dark especialy when it would be snowing and trying to get home.
But those really dark late afternoons didn't last very long so it wasn't too bad overall.

I am in California. In the summer months it is dark around 9pm. Even on days of over 100, I never run the A/c after 6pm. We use fan or wait until we can turn the whole house fan on. There is just the 2 of us, and my house is small compared to my friends...maybe 1900sq feet, if that. My PGE is about 190-200 during hot months. It is the winter heat that costs. Omg. We don't use heat at night in winter, we never heat over 68 degrees...and our bill is still close to 400

I think we all have a natural time clock built in our DNA. Some people never adjust to time change, or darkness. Some people need the darkness earlier, or more naturally to wind down, for comfort and to psychologically get along. Some enjoy the longer days. I love both.
an example is Alaska. My cousin was a native Californian. When he moved to Alaska he and his wife never adjusted to the darkness, nor the light. His wife became deeply depressed in the winter with so much darkness, while my cousin loved it. He could not tolerate so much light when the season changed. A fine pair. She got lamps for light they sell for S.AD. .
i myself am glad for the change. I love love love the longer days, but by October I am craving the dark earlier. Then by End of March, April I am looking forward to longer days. I enjoy both.

Fall back for Fall.............................?
My mom always said they go it backwards.....we need MORE not LESS daylight hours in the fall/winter seasons!!! And in the summer we dont need it light until almost 9PM/10PM....
I agree. I want a compromise. Light until 8:30, pitch dark 9pm. Then in winter dark by 6pm is good. Where I am inCalifornia. In winter it is pitch dark at 5. That is too early...but that's the way it is. Sigh

@Sooner I think she means b/c she has to leave her air conditioning on ALL DAY/NIGHT b/c it's so hot, thus her electric bill is outrageous! That is the way I read it anyways.
