[this is my nic]

I realize this is going to seem like a stupid remark, but here goes anyway.   The cathedral is constructed of stone which doesn't burn, but there are flammable materials in the interior such as pews, paintings, etc.  So, is the building on fire or the items within the cathedral on fire?

There are always massive beams,  made from wood, in these old churches. They support the ceiling

The spire contains 3 relics, one being a piece of the crown of thorns, and is entirely engulfed in flames.

The only good news in this is that whatever the damage, it will be repaired. I lived in Europe in the 60s and Germany/France/Italy were still doing a lot of rebuilding (using traditional methods and materials).

They were doing restorations, and some things had been removed. So @Cakers3  ,perhaps the relics were too , just as a precaution...
