Returned a half hour ago from the Dress Barn in my local strip mall. On another Dress Barn closing thread, I mentioned that I had not seen any of the two primary managers whenever I dropped in at the store in the last few months. Well, one of them was there today.
There are no signs posted yet declaring "Going Out of Business" sale, only the ones for "50% Off." They have been up for a while. In case those working at the store, by some remote chance, did not know anything, I did not utter a word about the closing until after hearing a conversation of commiseration between the manager and a customer at the checkout area.
When it was my turn for her to ring me up, I told her I was sorry about the closing and asked if she would continue working or what. She said that she will work at another Dress Barn about seven miles from the present location. ???? Aren't they all closing? I asked.. Not all at once. Mine will close June 25. I inquired about the other manager, and I was told she, too, was offered a position at the same store where she will continue working, but that the distance might be a deterrent for her because she now travels far to reach the store in our mall.
I felt a bit like a vulture. The general look was that of a store that had met its end, with different sale racks, etc. I found an elegant blouse in navy blue by Roz & Ali, who had become my favorite designers there after they changed things up several years ago. It was originally $49.99 and I got it for $16.42. This might be my last purchase there.
Farewell, Dress Barn. You dressed me for so many of the years that I was a stay-at-home mom and later, when I returned to the workforce. I shopped there during my happiest years, of that there is no doubt.
The manager readily agreed that online shopping had killed their store. I felt a bit guilty standing there in my Linea outfit.

@Goldie76 Payless started closing stores months ago but mine is still open. It seems the many brick and mortar stores going out of business all have different ways of how they are closing them.

We had several stores in my area that all closed a few months ago and other businesses have already moved into their retail space.

They are all closing, just not on the same schedule. We saw that with Payless. Perhaps it's because they still have leases so they wait for the leases to run out.

I too, loved and shopped at Dressbarn. Since Dressbarn is connected to Loft and Ann Taylor, I truly hope they're not next...
So many popular and been-around-forever B&M's store closings, it's so discouraging. Thnx for the update.
