@wagirl: I thought it was just me. There's a creep factor to the Elf on the Shelf IMO.  So, no, you won't find this elf on my shelf. LOL

  I didn't grow up with them and personally I think they're creepy.

But I mentor 20-something year olds that grew up with them and love the elf on the shelf tradition.

We are currently doing this with the two youngest in the family.

 

Everyone is having great fun and doing it with lighthearted humor.

 

No creepiness.  No scolding or threatening of the kids.

 

It is what you want to make it.  Exhausting for the parents involved though.
