These incredible photographs capture the adorable moment a family of squirrels try to squeeze themselves out of a tree hollow at the same time.

Eager to get out and explore, the rodents refuse to give up their spot and can all be seen trying to push through the hole together.

The scrap between the determined small animals began with just two of the squirrels fighting to leave their nest - also known as a tree cavity den - before they were joined by another duo.

They were caught on camera at Inokashira Park in Tokyo, Japan by local wildlife enthusiast Hiroshi Takeda.

Inokashira Park's zoo, which specialises in native Japanese animals, such as birds, raccoons, and monkeys, is well known for its squirrel garden, and the animal is also its mascot.

The photographer said: 'The whole family were squeezing way too far, I was worried they could have got stuck. Squirrels are my favourite animals. I have photographed them many times but this was definitely the best one.'

Tight spot! The scrap between the determined squirrels begins with just two of the squirrels fighting to leave their nest - also known as a tree cavity den - before they are joined by more

A third cheeky rodent tries to slip in the gap on the right side of the tree hollow but fails to get past the other two

The three rodents refuse to budge and only manage to squeeze their heads into the small hole

They are then joined by a fourth determined squirrel, eager to escape the den

During the race to get out of the tree's trunk in Inokashira Park, the bottom squirrel appears to lead the way

This is until the two rodents either side of it push together and propel it backwards

@feline groovy @how adorable!

they remind me of Queen's Bohemian Rapsody or a Beatles album cover.

Hope they got out safely.  Thanks for posting.

@feline groovy

I'll bet they heard the ice cream truck going by.  That's usually how my family members and I get into a jam like that.

Too cute!

In a tree in my back yard it would be like “Did I hear that bird seed bag being opened and the seeds hitting the bid feeder? WOO HOO!, me first, NO me first, ....”.

Re: 'No Wiggle Room Wednesday'

I LOVE squirrels. So cute.

I feed them on our back cinderblock fence.

Organic Coconut. Apple slices, Strawberries, Oatmeal (the old fashioned good stuff) and sometimes I put out a paper plate loaded with smucker's Natural Peanut butter.

They delight in the goodies and I love to see their cheery happy faces!
