And it's not comfortable watching TV shows on my computer .... sittng at the desk!

My remote control died and I can only watch one channel until the new remote arrives. I called cable co. yesterday - remote should be here in a couple of days.

When I got home Saturday night - I used the TV remote to to turn on the TV, and then picked up the cable remote to change the station.

Remote was dead - so I hanged the bateries - the on/off worked - but could not change the channel.

Fortunately - the channel I'm stuck on (which shall remain nameless) is my favorite.

That happened to my bedroom TV remote last year.  I paid extra to have it sent Express rather than wait for the free delivery option.

My satellite receiver does have channel up/down buttons that I could have used, but I just watched the other TV until the new remote arrived.

You all need interior antennas so you're not dependent on cable or satellite.  I watch QVC, Q2 and HSN over the air, as well as all the local channels.  Anyone in NYC ought to get fantastic reception and lots of channels.

My cable company (Xfinity) is about 15 mins from my home and there is one 5 mins from my job so when I need a new remote I just go to the store and pick up one.

An interior antenna would just be a waste of money for me.  I don't live close enough to any broadcast towers to get reception.

@arizona babe

Thanks for that info.  Should have known - you can almost everything at Amazon.

Cable company is sending me new one - no charge. There are several models - depends on my cable set-up.

(If I were in a hurry - I could go uptown to the office and get a new one - but I really don't want to do that.)

Far be it from me to even sound like I know what I'm talking about with respect to electronics, but...

A few weeks ago I experienced something similar. I could not change the station on my living room tv. I could access Netflix, Hulu, etc., But not my local channels.

I called Xfinity, they simply and remotely reset my equipment and it worked.

I mention this every once in awhile here, and in the Electronics Forum. With any relatively newer electronic device, including remotes!

Whatever device it controls, /reset/restart or unplug. After doing this wait 10-30 seconds to give them time to reboot. Most new electronics act up, and regardless of what you think, these steps are pretty easy to follow.

Once the brains of these devices get scrambled, one of the aforementioned, just might be all it takes. Might also save some frustration.

When I called, they did reset my cable box ... but the box wasn't the problem.

The daily and weekly shows that I had programmed weren't effected. Those channels changed automatically - so the box worked fine.

What didn't work were the channel buttons on my remote control.   I can't change the channel.

And .... the remote turned the box on and off.  The remote DID NOT change the channel.
