Apprently, they do that a lot.  It's how they hug.  I'd be honored if one hugged me

That picture touched my heart and made me smile with love.  There is no doubt in my mind elephants are sweet affectionate animals with feelings.

May they thrive and be able to live freely in the wild as they were meant to do.

Re: Nice photo from the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

The Trust has been the most successful of the various elephant protection.  They have  reintroduced so many of the baby elephants they rescued.  After they join a wild herd, they come back to visit. Bringing their wild friends with them.  They are always patrolled by air and by armed guards to discourage poaching.  They've taken children to them to learn about the elephants. Kenya is a big country,

Re: Nice photo from the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

The photo is touching, but at the same time, I also find it a bit sad, because most likely the calf's mother was killed for her ivory tusks, thus making the calf an orphan, and needing a sanctuary like this to survive.😢

Wouldn't it be great if sanctuaries weren't needed?

Maybe some day, 100 years from now, humanity will evolve to appreciate and respect all life, and sanctuaries won't be needed as much.

One can only hope.
