I would love to receive some suggestions and experiences from fellow retirees on moving forward with things to do, activities, volunteer opportunities etc. Thank you so much for any ideas

@sissy01 I have a few things I have done. I have volunteered for food delivery for Office for the Aging, (the 2 x a month frozen meals), my library monthly craft session, a few art museums, outdoor botanical gardens, library special presentation zooms and in person, and visiting family out of state. Gardening is something I also enjoy, even mowing the grass. I am sure you will find many things to do, and like me, will say how can I do it all?
You will find many things to do which you didn't have time to do before. Congratulations and enjoy!!

I'm not a high energy person so I really could do more. However I try to keep busy with friends and family. My house always seems to need stuff done and we're slowly renovating it....that in itself is time consuming.
I plan on looking into a local gym soon since I need motivation to get moving which I really need to do for my health. I have a few issues with my feet and knees.
I have also been taking an art / crafting class at a local art center. On Wednesday mornings my class of " handmade wet felting techniques " begins again in September. It's a three hour class and I've been going now for almost three years. It's a lot of fun and I enjoy the teacher and other class members.
I like how this art center offers a lot of various craft and art classes during the week mornings and afternoons. My class consists of mostly women my age but last session we did have two men.
One of the women that's in my class also volunteers at a local food bank two mornings a week.
I'm sure you will find your niche with a variety of things to do...good luck with your new phase of life!

Start out by just relaxing and giving yourself some down time. It is a great time to work on projects you didn't have time for while working. Also, a great time to clean out closets, cupboards, drawers, and donate or toss items you won't be needing or using. I'm sure you will find things to keep you busy.

Congratulations on your retirement! My advice is to enjoy every day as it comes and be grateful for it; move on to the best phase of your life.

Enjoy your retirement. Just know it's ok to have days where you do absolutely nothing. It's just nice not to have to report to the mothership anymore. Do what you want if and when you want. Don't feel obligated to do thangs you don't want to do. Don't know where you live but I'm looking forward to fall and winter when we can come out from hibernation and actually do things outside. You might be the other way around.

NOTHING has changed much for me.....except I don't have to go to work!
I MUST ADD: I found the transition DIFFICULT

I didn't find it difficult at all. Actually I got laid off at 58 and just never went back to work. I was so sick of corporate America, the company I worked for was drama, drama and more drama. I hated the commute and really didn't like many of the backstabbing people who worked there. If I could have stayed at my previous company I would have been happy and worked for many more years but unfortunately they went out of business and I had to find a new job. I was just hanging on until I got laid off.

@Meowingkitty I know exactly what you are saying. The back stabbing is horrible and I found it to be anywhere I worked. It was not difficult at all for me to retire at all. I love not being on a time schedule and do what ever I want when I want. @sissy01 Congratuations and enjoy every minute of your retirement!
