sissy01, enjoy every minute of your retirement.  You deserve it!  My dh took early retirement 23 years ago and said it took him ONE DAY to get used to it!  I was a quadriplegic for the first three years of his retirement.  I still remember telling him that if I ever got out of the wheelchair and wanted to go somewhere, don't tell me NO.

We have been to all 50 states as we love to go on road trips.  We go to our gym 3-4 days a week.  I walk several days a week,  we play cards at our senior center on Monday's.

We hot tub almost every day.   Some days, we do nothing except sit on the front porch with a good book.

We go out to eat with good friends and enjoy family time.  Life is too short not to enjoy life.

I am going to the Carbone Hospital on Tuesday for a total hysterectomy.  I know that God has me in the palm of his hand.

I retired at the end of June. I am also a new grandma of a beautiful 5 month old baby girl.  I visit a few days a week. I also volunteer.

When my job took a turn for the worst after a new hire, that I was responsible for training I knew it was time to retire. She created drama that was too much. My boss was so enamored with her. The new person accused me of training her incorrectly. Not once but 6 times in 30 minutes. And it got to me. I was then called in by my boss and I was told I was making everyone uncomfortable. We were only 6 people prior to the new person. We were a  team that always helped each other. And now I am the problem child. After that 45 minute meeting of hearing I am the problem, I calmly said to my boss, you know what is great about being 65! It means I do not have to tolerate this. I will be giving my 3 month notice on Monday. I will be officially retiring. The panic that came across her face was worth it. I went back to me desk picked up stuff and went home for the rest of the day. On Monday I turned in my notice. Never in all my years of full time work have I ever been told I was the problem.  Forgot to add the new person would watch TV on her phone all day at work. I am not sure when that became ok while being a claims adjuster.

Since being retired the relief has been wonderful. I do what I want when I want. And I am loving every minute of it.

Like others have said, take it one day at a time!  Do what makes you happy. And I agree take the first few weeks easy.

Congratulations on your Retirement!!!

If you hope to do much traveling, I would suggest doing it in the early years of your retirement.  That said, I know people older than us who are up for big road trips and cruises. 🚢

Congrats, @sissy01.

I dont know if this would apply to you or not, but one of the first things I did after I retired was went to a bar in the middle of the afternoon on a week day and had a couple of drinks with a girlfriend.  How weird that felt...felt like I was doing something naughty.  LMBO!

Give yourself time to relax and enjoy your new found freedom. After awhile stop and think of all the things you would have done if you had the time.

@lenapecci, my bf since HS lives in Lena, IL! Congrats to you on your retirement.  I was treated the same way, when my "head honcho" wanted to know when I was going to come back to work.  I told her that it was up to my Neurologist.  He said that I would never be going back to work.  I didn't tell my boss as my data entry dept. was also closing  down & she didn't tell  me that.  She didn't want me to get unemployment, holiday pay and vacation pay &  540 hours I had accumulated for not missing a day of work in 10 years that I had coming to me. I worked there 32 years total!  I have been retired for 23 years.

@twinny70   I hope your were able to get your unemployment and the hours you were owed. What a terrible thing your boss was trying to do.

Yes, I did get unemployment too.  If it wasn't for one of my co workers, I wouldn't have known that the Data Entry dept. was closing down.  Yes  it was a sneaky thing to do to me.  I have been retired for 23 years.  Not 32 years! Auto correct messed me up!
