@chrystaltreeSorry, but you're mistaken -- cash tipping is acceptable with Uber (I've never used Lyft), and I've found it's always appreciated.

If I were a driver and saw that there was a choice of picking up someone who tips and someone doesn’t, I know what choice I would make. Uber drivers rate passengers as well.

Uber drivers do not accept tips in cash, well at least they are not supposed to, you can add a tip to the fare when you review them

Even if it’s just a dollar or two, every little bit adds up. The simple gesture of a tip is oftentimes also enough to make a driver appreciate the ride and rate you higher.
| Should you tip? | Yes |
| How much? | 10-20% of the total fare. Usually $1-2 on short rides, $5-10 on long rides |
| Cash or in-app? | Either is fine |

I use Lyft frequently and I always tip in cash. I just set aside a few dollars to use as tips, its faster for the drivers to get their tips this way.

And thanks so much for the info because I had no idea that they are prohibited from taking cash tips as I almost always hand them cash as I'm getting out of the car. I will contact Lyft prior to my next trip.@PilatesLoverVery good question which I'm interested in also ... I use Lyft monthly and my understanding is one has to have a credit card on file for use. I can give the driver a cash tip or add a tip on the credit card.
I use Lyft often and my friend's husband is retired but he drives for Lyft a few times a week. Uber and Lyft driver are prohibited from taking cash tips. If you have drivers who accept cash, that would be a big red flag for me that something is off with that driver. It's something I would report to Lyft. Also, how do you tip when you don't even get the charge until you arrive at your destination and then exit the car??? The driver is gone when you pay through the app.

if I am correct Uber and Lyft have stopped cash fares because of the robberies that have happened.
You have to sign up with the app and credit card must be on file.
if you are concerened about CC stealing.
I have 2 credit cards, one is for this type of usage. I keep a very low amount of money I can charge on this card, the other card is just used for the big purchases.

Uber policy is CC only as the driver doesn't have change, could be robbed & it's convenient for the passenger. That doesn't mean You Can not tip in cash. It's up to your discretion & im sure the driver doesn't mind as he gets the tip sooner. Uber policy may discourage robbery because it's known drivers don't carry cash. There is no way for Uber management to know you tipped in cash. I tip via the app. I also have a five star rating by drivers so I guess they don't mind.

I am not sure that the drivers can see that info.
