The best thing you can do is get away from AT&T. Cut the cord and get smartphones. Some are low in cost because you pay for a plan that has only what you need, but then you will have long distance and caller ID.

Lately I have been getting more robo/scam calls on my cell (smart phone) than on my landline..And my friends have been experiencing the same thing.  One friend said she got 15 scam numbers in 10 minutes and this is WITH a call blocker app on her smart phone..

I have been getting many calls starting about 8 AM and going on until 9 PM every day. I have started writting my Senator monthly. The last time I told him that if he doesn't get his pals in the Senate doing something I would write him once a month.

Good old seantor writes back and tells me about the way they stopped the annoying calls years ago with the Do Not Call list. I keep telling him that list doesn't stop the calls, it tells the callers which numbers are legit so they don't waste their time and money calling numbers that aren't in use.

Finally the last time I wrote I told him to look up the definition of criminal, and he would know that they aren't following the rules of that list.

They need to make the app illegal to have and use that allows them to put in a different name and number instead of the number they are calling from. There is no legal reason I should be able to put in someone else's name and number and pretend I am calling from that number. Spoofing another number and name should not be legal! I answered a call because the Caller ID showed it was the hospital. But, it was Kristen wanting to lower my credit card interest rate to 0%, not anyone even near the hospital. You can't block the hospital. If you do, then what if it's someone that needs help, or it's really the hospital wanting to set up an appointment?

Spoofing a number should get you fined.

I know it isn't my letters, but the last answer I got back from my Senator he said they are working on 2 different bills to try to stop robocalls. At least they are beginning to listen. Maybe if we all look up our representatives online and fill out their forms they will start to hear us. Of course, it's some low paid helper that reads the letter, but if that person reads enough of them they may poke the Senator/Congressman and say "Hey, people are complaining about...". It's worth a try.

The funny thing is the very first robocall I ever got was from a Former First Lady wanting me to vote for her son that was running for President. That was a while back. Now, it's many every day wanting to rob me of what little money I have.

There are a few things they have done....Phone carriers can now block robocalls from their end without even needing your permission....(similar to whät no more NOMOREROBO does with preblocked numbers on their device), and they are also working on technology to stop numner spoofing.  They are also working on a way to stop overseas scamming calls, where the recipient would have to enter an assigned special code for an international call to be received from your phone.....BUT sadly even with these new efforts they said these robocalls/scam calls would never be fully stopped....

BTW your first lady can call all she wants---the Do Not Call Registry does not apply to political calls or calls from non-profits and charities Also, calls from legitimate “survey” organizations are exempt (the last one really hisses me off, because now some of them claim to be taking a "survey" and not trying to sell you something, they just invite you to a meeting, or send you more information---AND ARE JUST AS ANNOYING 😠)

@Spacrazy

Thank you for the kind advice, my biggest fear is that I will block a private caller number which could be an emergency, like in your situation. I think I will be much more careful now and at least wait and see if there is a message.

Thanks for sharing some valuable information!

I get phone calls from my OWN number and from the whole United States of America! Yep, that’s what pops up! I must be special. 😆😆😆

That happened to me also.  Just 2 calls in one day.  I have ATT and do not have alternative option.  Only Comcast available and I had to dump cable years ago for TV and get Dish Network.  My condo was cable ready 25 years ago when built.  Suddenly had issues with cable and nobody could find splitter in wall to resolve issue by special tech.  90 units here and nobody has cable anymore - same wiring issue.

I now have found 4 pages of directions on how to block calls - just have had no time.  I receive tons of calls on landline and cell phone.

I reallky sympathize with all here.  Something should be done.  Suddenly Do Not Call list no longer exists or no help anyway.

These calls are annoying.
