Lindsay's Grandma:  I believe you made the right decision, in the long run.  The store owner probably asked whoever took your items, to return them and leave them on his desk.   Also, it was nice of him to send you the check for the other necklace.   Sometimes we have to first think about our own safety and well-being.  Just maybe the robber will think twice before taking other folks' property.  'All in all', it more or less turned out very well for you. 

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).
