You can get very lifelike hollow owls. Ours is about 18" high. Amazon - $12. Hangs outside the patio picture window. I did put some sand in the bottom, so he doesn't sway in the breeze too much, just enough that the birds notice and don't fly into the window.

Some time back, we replaced the regular sliding patio doors at the back of the house with doors that have lights like a French door; the birds don't fly into that one.

I put 4 of the Window Alert hummingbird decals on my patio slider about a week ago & so far, knock on wood, I haven't had any bird strikes!
