Re: New (for me) Eating Out Issue - Too Much Food!

They make car fridges!! It's a small square that plugs in somewhere. We had one we received as a gift but never used it.

But yes, I have the same  situation, I eat until I am no longer hungry and that is it. I can't stand to feel full.

My husband and I are the same.  We've lost a lot of weight over the years and being older contributes to it.  We share plates sometimes.  Even if we have to pay extra it's worth it.  Otherwise take it with us.  We also keep hot/cold bags in our cars.  In hot weather just use a cooler and cold pack of some sort.

@Moonchilde

I also have the same problem with eating/appetite.

While I've never been a big eater, when I turned 60 almost 5 years ago, I weighed 130 lbs. at almost 5'4".

I realized that I was losing weight and after the first 10-15 lbs. came off, I decided to ask my Dr. about it.

I had every test/scan/MRI/CT and lab test known to man by several different Drs. (they were looking for cancer or an organ abnormality).

End result? Lots of co-pays later, they found nothing.

My gastro Dr. said it was probably due to age and and a change in my metabolism.

I've been at 105# for 4 years now, but I sometimes have to remind myself to eat.

If you are having 1-2 mixed drinks with your meals maybe that is filling you up.

Have to remind myself not to eat. LOL "You can't have that it's fatty" "You can't have that it's sugar"  "you can't have that it's dairy". "can't have white bread"

We always take home what is left.  We keep insulated bags in each car so we always have one.  Also have cold packs in freezer and when we can remember, we throw those in.

That’s my issue. When I leave my house I don’t have every stop and every step planned out ahead of time because that honestly isn’t me - and I wouldn’t want it to be.  So I don’t “know” in advance when I might need the cold pack. And if I didn’t need it, remembering to put it back in the freezer for a next time.

Insulated bags are simple, I always have one in the car; it’s always having the cold pack that to me is possible but not practical.

Re: New (for me) Eating Out Issue - Too Much Food!

I usually eat less than half of my meal in a restaurant.  I always ask for a doggie bag unless I'm not going home for a while.  I don't like to waste food but do enjoy going out to eat, so sometimes I am wasteful.  I don't eat out that often though.  I don't usually order appetizers instead of the meal because there isn't an appetizer I would enjoy as a meal in itself.  I've just kind of gotten used to this being the way it is with my eating.

@WenGirl42 and @Marp I did think of asking for a cup of ice. I have done that occasionally with a few things. It might be something I’d do, depending on circumstances. If not always practical in all situations it’s at east an option.

@NickNack I’m lucky - in my area more and more restaurants of all ethnicities and dishes are doing small plates, which is definitely a great way to go.

I was bummed in my situation yesterday. Chili’s has changed their menu, as these large chains often do, and they’ve changed it in such a way that a lot of things I might have wanted were ruled out because they were made with a spicy sauce or with an ingredient or two I don’t like. An ‘almost perfect, but...’ thing. And of course, it wasn’t things that were easy substitutes or easy leave-offs/outs, but things that were integral to the dish.
