@Susan Louise Not sure if others mentioned this since I didn't read all the comments but this is not new, but recently added. Many people, including myself, will add items to my cart because I am interested but not enough to purchase at the asking price.

Most of the sellers will eventually make an offer, less than the current price, at a lower price, sometimes even 50% less. So, I will add to my cart and if the offer is worth it to me I will buy it. The offers are usually only valid for 48 hours or so.

In addition, I buy a lot from one particular seller who sells 1,000's of apparel items from QVC and their prices are reduced weekly. They may only be reduced by a dollar or so each week or two, but eventually the price is a good value for me. I will just let the item sit in my cart and if it sells, no worries. I actually see items purchased and think the buyer should have waited a day or two and the price would be cheaper.

@cjm61   I've bought over 460 items from Ebay over the past 12+ years...not a newbie. I think you need to view a few of my posts in this thread. Smiley Happy

I used to put things in the Watchlist, but then I'd forget about them!  LOL

So now I put things I'm considering in my shopping cart because every time I go to Ebay, it's obvious somethings in the cart.

People also put things in their carts and leave them there until pay day, or do more comparison shopping, to see if there's a better deal available.

I chuckle at the people who imply that sales "tactics" mean they're trying to trick you into buying something.  Their business is to SELL, so ... duh.

I never buy anything right off the bat, I usually get an offer from the eBay Seller very quickly or at least overnight.

I have been an avid Ebay shopper for over 20 years, I love putting things in my Watch List and quite often a better offer is made to me. And then if offered I make an even lower counter offer

I've noticed this too but didn't think anything of it.  I just got two fridge water filters today

Sales tactic. Short supply...blah, blah. E-tailers like Williams Sonoma do the same.

In their cart doesn't mean someone is buying.

I'm finding Ebay to be far less trustworthy lately.

Interesting observation, and it makes sense to me.

Personally, I sell more on Ebay than I buy, but rarely a month goes by that I haven't bought something.

Sometime in the past year I stopped putting things I was seriously considering on my Watchlist, and just put them right in my Cart.  (Then I look to see of there are any better prices for what I'm interested in.)

The reason I do that is because I can forget about something on my Watchlist.  However, when I sign on, I see how many things in my cart and they're less likely to be forgotten.

@Tinkrbl44 If you're forgetting what is in your Watchlist, maybe you don't need it.

When you get ready to actually buy, do you not have to buy everything sitting in your cart or have to remove it from the cart?  That sounds like a PIA to me.  I don't think I've ever forgotten having something in my Ebay Watchlist.  Now, on Amazon I have lots of stuff there, sometimes because it's in the running of things I'm comparing.  I'd really hate to have to deal with all that stuff sitting in my cart when I get ready to buy something..

I'm no longer a regular Ebay shopper, and I tend to wait until the last minute to buy something, so things always go in my Watchlist.  I don't think I've ever had a Seller offer me a discount.

As far as the OP goes, I get really tired of every item I happen to pull up on HSN having a little pop-up telling me it's "going fast".  Most of the time, I'm just curious when I see someone mention and item and have absolutely no interest in it.  But, even if I do, I won't be pressured into buying it that way.  I don't like feeling rushed when I'm buying something.

I do that but it's to not have to search for the item and remember I was interested in it.  And yes, sellers will sometimes reduce the price.  I need to put a jar of Tatcha Night Cream in my basket.  I scrapped the jar clean last night.
