My neighborhood is rocking for any holiday that fireworks are sold. Usually, the sky will be lit up with firework displays, but this year I didn't see any bottle rockets lighting things up. It seems all the noise was from on the ground fireworks. And, it was not as bad as usual. Not sure why. Maybe some common sense considering the drought we've been experiencing. Uh, probably not.

The police have never done anything to control this problem. A policeman lives three houses from me, with neighbors on both sides of him usually firing off fireworks. The police station is within walking distance of my home, too. They just look the other way, or perhaps participate themselves. Small towns, shaky rules.

Shooting off fireworks inside our city limits is illegal, but usually I always hear some on those type holidays.  This year I did not hear any at all but I was asleep long before midnight.  They start very early on July 4th in shooting off fireworks.  I know it is illegal but it does not bother me I enjoy the celebration of the noise.

I went to bed as soon as the clock hit midnight.  I noticed them for about 10 or 15 minutes but they either quit or I fell asleep.

What the heck has happened to us, in society now??

Shooting off GUNS to "celebrate" New Years??

So cavalier!

I think I'd classify this as completely INSANE!

And above us in the USA.

It looks insane when Radicals, like Isis, "celebrate" by shooting guns this way, on these occasions.  So USA'ers copy the very behavior of these Radicals,  whose behavior we disapprove of??  .. & whose behavior that we are fighting against??

I'd expect better of us US Citizens.

I'm really disappointed.

Just cant be reconciled realistically, imho.

Re: New Years Eve Fireworks

[ Edited ]

Our neighborhood sounded like downtown Beirut. They started at 5:30 and kept going until after 2 am. Both legal and illegal ones. Cops won't do anything because they don't have the resources. They only thing you can hope for is no one loses an arm and no one burns down their house. Real smart considering we live in the desert but they won't outlaw them because someone in the state legislature has his pockets in the fireworks industry.

Do people in your neighborhood set off fireworks (and guns) on New Years Eve?  They do in mine and it's very annoying.  First of all, private fireworks are banned in my city; and secondly, it's frightens the C#@p (literally) out of my dogs.  My one poor dog was trembling so badly I couldn't calm him down and thought he was going to stroke out. And if you call the police to report it, you are told they have to be "caught in the act" for them to do anything about it even though it's

ILLEGAL to begin with.

Strange that people get allup in arms about fireworks being illegal. Yet catching people doung illegal activities at the southern borders, you are supposed to look the other wsy.
