Wishing everyone a Wonderful, Blessed and Joyful New Year! I thought it would be fun to post our best blessings that we remember this past year - would you like to do that? For me, it's our visits to see my 91 year old sister, Deil, and enjoying her cooking, baking, her wisdom, and wit! Another sister, Sister LaDonna, makes my all occasion cards for me on her computer! They are so nice and I love them! My family, was a joy they are! And you, my friends, whom I've gotten to know here and there through the years - thank you for your friendship! Anyone else care to share?

Much time is spent fearing that which isn't really there in the first place.

Lord, help me conquer my fears and overcome my difficulties as they

happen rather than giving up and letting my difficulties overcome me.

Scripture for the day:

"Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes

refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, until the

destroying storms pass by." ~Psalm 57:1

Meditation for the day:

"My soul is restless until it finds its rest in Thee." A river flows

on, until it loses itself in the sea. Our spirits long for rest in

the Spirit of God. We can yearn to realize a peace, a rest, a

satisfaction that we have never found in the world or its pursuits.

Some of us are not conscious of our need, and can shut the doors

of our spirits against the Spirit of God. That makes it difficult for

us to find true peace.

Prayer for the day:

I pray that I may feel the divine unrest. I pray that my soul may

find its rest in God.

God whispers in your soul and speaks to your mind. Sometimes when you

don't

have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at you. It's your

choice:

Listen to the whisper, or wait for the brick.

Prayer for the End of the Year:

Almighty God,

As we are on the brink of a brand New Year, we thank you for all the

blessings you have given us this year.

Father, please forgive us for all that we have done, that we should not have

done, for the things we should have done and did not. Please wipe our

hearts clean and make us pure again and free in You.

We ask that in the New Year you will Guide us in our Choices and Decision

Making so that we will choose wisely with the Help of Your Holy Spirit.

Help us to acknowledge you in everything we do and then we will succeed in

our Plans.

Help us to Delight ourselves in you and you will give us the Desires of our

Heart!

Help us to Love, show compassion and help others as your Son did.

We thank you for the Gift of Jesus and for His life given for our Eternal

Salvation and Freedom.

We ask all in the Savior's Name! Amen.

Prayer for Protection (especially from flu)

O Holy Virgin Mary, conceived without sin, I choose thee this day to be the

Lady and Mistress of our home, and I pray thee, in the name of the Most

Precious Blood of Jesus, thy Divine Son, and of thy Immaculate Conception,

to preserve it from fire and lightning, from tempests and thieves, from

cholera, influenza, diphtheria, malaria, and all other contagious and

pestilential diseases.

Bless and protect every member of our family, preserve us from sin, from

sudden and unprovided death, and from all other evils and accidents, in the

name and through the merits of the most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus

Christ. Amen.

THE "CONTROL" ISSUE

By Marion Smith

Job 37:15 Do you know how God controls the clouds and makes His

lightning flash?

I believe each of us likes to be “in control” of our

lives, and we want to know where we are going. This is definitely

true for me, especially if I am going to take a car trip. I always

get the map out, plot out my course and know exactly where I will be

driving.

When I had the opportunity to spend a week end at an

Emmaus retreat, I was excited. “Where is the retreat held?” I asked.

My sponsors were vague, but I wanted details! Where would it be, what

would we do, etc., etc., etc.!!

Well, the night we left for the retreat I just got in the

car and let them drive. I had no idea where I was going, nor had I

mapped a course on a road map. I trusted my sponsors to get me to the

correct destination on time and in good shape. The road was narrow

and the nighttime sky descended upon us, but I no longer cared about

details, because I trusted the driver. TRUST- what an important thing

this is.

Am I willing to turn over the drivers seat of my life to

God? To allow Him to get me to my destination? I know my final

destination is Heaven, but is it necessary for me to know every detail

on the road there? Don’t I trust God enough to know He’ll be right

beside me, no matter the twists on life’s road or how suddenly

darkness can descend?

Sometimes, I try to give God the road map and tell Him the

way! How silly! He is more “in control” than I am! God is the sponsor

of my life, and I need to let Him stay in the driver’s seat, taking me

down life’s road of surprises.

PRAYER FOR THE PRESENT MOMENT

Dear God. I spend so much time reliving yesterday or

anticipating tomorrow that I lose sight of the only time

that is really mine - the present moment. You give me

today one moment at a time. That's all I have - all I ever

will have.

Give the faith which knows that each moment contains

exactly what is best for me. Give the hope which trusts

You enough to forget past failings and future trials.

Give the love which makes each moment an anticipation of

eternity with You. We ask this in the name of Jesus who is

the same yesterday, today and forever. Amen.

SOME NEW YEAR'S WISHES FOR YOU!

During the year may you have:

Enough happiness to keep you sweet.

Enough trials to keep you strong.

Enough sorrow to keep you human.

Enough hope to keep you happy.

Enough failure to keep you humble.

Enough success to keep you eager.

Enough friends to give you comfort.

Enough wealth to meet your needs.

Enough enthusiasm to make you

look forward to tomorrow.

Enough determination to make

each day better than the day before.

Re: New Year's Positive Thread

From Helen Steiner Rice:

New Year Prayer

God grant us this year a wider view,

So we see others' faults through the eyes of You.

Teach us to judge not with hasty tongue,

Neither the adult ... nor the young.

Give us patience and grace to endure

And a stronger faith so we feel secure.

Instead of remembering, help us forget

The irritations that caused us to fret.

Freely forgiving for some offense

And finding each day a rich recompense.

In offering a friendly, helping hand

And trying in all ways to understand;

That all of us whoever we are ...

Are trying to reach an unreachable star.

For the great and small ... the good and bad,

The young and old ... the sad and glad

Are asking today; Is life worth living?

The answer is only in, loving and giving.

For only Love can make man kind

And Kindness of Heart brings Peace of Mind.

By giving love, we can start this year

To lift the clouds of hate and fear.

Re: New Year's Positive Thread

Well, I hope the Lord doesn't take any offense if I forget to mention a blessing {#emotions_dlg.blushing}.

January - after starting work dreading the job and the stress associated with it, I turned it over to God and with hard work met the deadline for a highly visible project.

March - my sister survived after throwing two blood clots that in all of the doctor's opinion, should have killed her.

June - welcomed a new baby bird to my family. Again, the last time I did this my DH was alive, so with God's help and more than a dose of St. Francis, I hand raised this 4 day old bird on my own and she's thriving.

October - after having blood work done for the first time in 6 years, received some unexpected results. Instead of being disappointed about it, I am grateful that I learned about potential problem areas while there is time to turn things around.

December - overall grateful for my employment, my birds, especially the first two who are 8 1/2 years old. I have no idea their life expectancy, I cherish each day with them. I am grateful that my small family is still with me.

I have so much to be grateful for.

Re: New Year's Positive Thread

Good afternoon!

The tree has come down, ornaments and lights packed away, husband outside taking down our decorations, Christmas is officially over. I love the glow of the christmas lights on a tree and the decorations that I've had for years, makes me sad to take it down. There is always next year!!!

Blackeyed peas and greens are cooking, will have cornbread too. Praying 2014 will be a good year or a better year in many ways. Thanking God for blessing me more than I deserve, praying he sees fit to continue.

I pray that 2014 is a good year for everyone.
