The kid doesn’t “miss” while he’s relieving himself. His mother calls him and he absent mindedly turns around to answer her while he’s still peeing. That changes the “aim”.  That’s how the puddle gets on the floor.  And based on his height above the bowl, he’s older than 3.

I don’t find it all that cute, but it’s not unrealistic. Stuff that happens can be gross; Stanley wants to clean it for you. Beats cleaning it yourself is the message.
