Today I got a phone call (I screen my calls), saying that there was a civil case against me.

Yes, I'll admit that I was worried, but then I stopped and thought, if it were true, I would have received legal papers in the mail, which I haven't.

No, I don't have NoMoRobo, as this was on my landline.

So, be careful out there.

These people will stop at nothing to try and scam people. If something were really wrong, you would have received a letter, like you said.  Some guy called and told my husband that if he didn't give him the information he wanted he would send the police. Hubs told him "I'm right here, go ahead" and then hung up on the guy.

Re: New Phone Scam

You can get NoMoRobo for landline. In fact, it's free for landline but has a fee for use on cell phones. I had it until I purchased a new cordless telephone system for my landline which has a very good built-in call blocker.

@Anonymous032819   Nomorobo is free for your landline.I have it on mine. It helps but isn't 100% effective.

It's gotten to the point where I don't answer my phone unless I recognize the caller. The same goes for my cell.

I usually screen calls, but picked up once when I was expecting a call back from a doctor's office.  I can't remember their pitch, but I know I asked them, "How do I get in on this scam? What's the cut? How much can I make?". After an "Ahh..." then a long pause, they hung up.

This has been around for a while. I´ve heard it many times, also the one about the Sheriff will be coming to arrest me. I always liked listening to the messages.

I get calls now but  no messages.

Our landline carrier does not support nomorobo. We do have the device we bought from the Q that blocks unwanted calls though and it has been quite helpful over the years.

7 yrs ago I had a guy call saying that I had to pay money or I'll be arrested, he called multiple times and had the nerve to call me at 6am the next day. I was livid because now he woke me up. I called him every name in the book and said
' hold on my husband just walked in the door he's a Sheriff" he never called back!!

I played along with a scam call one day and they told me my id was found in a car in Texas (I don't live in Texas) they were sending the police for me because there was an arrest and drugs were found in the car. I was going to have to pay thousands of dollars ! I gave them fake ID info which they confirmed I was the one they were looking for. Then I let them know they were just played, said a few curse words and hung up. I kept them on the phone long enough to give me a good laugh

@Grand Happy  Many years ago, my cell phone rang and I was not paying attention and I answered.  It went something like yours and I told him that my husband was the Chief of police, I gave my husband the phone and my husband said hello and all he heard was click.
