@patbzwrote:@Cakers3: I was asked for my Medicare card today and I do have an advantage plan (I have been asked for it about four times this year).
@patbz Interesting. We have an advantage plan too but only had to show our driver's license (not at our PCP since they've known us for years) at other locations to make sure we were who we said we were.
The point is that you don't HAVE to show the Medicare card unless that is all you have.
Whether you are asked for it when you have other insurance is up to that provider, I guess.
Im not sure what you mean. I have Medicare with Blue Cross as my Supplemental, and always have to show both cards.
@shoesnbags The only time we ever had to show our Medicare card was to the rep who signed us up for the Advantage Plan.
Our medicare cards haven't been shown since then.
This is our experience. Yours is different. It's no big deal.
The point was - someone wrote you never have to show your medicare card if you have an advantage plan - said it like it was an absolute FACT - and that is not true. I have often been asked to show my medicare card when I go for lab work or for a test like my mammo, and I have an advantage plan. Then , when others correct the post that was wrong - the person who wrote it , instead of admitting they were wrong and apologizing, gets all defensive and snarky.

@Shawniewrote:I laminated mine, problem solved.
SS cards are not supposed to be laminated. It can void the security features built into the card. When I was working in HR and people presented their SS card for identification, it was considered void if laminated. Look at the back of your card, some of them tell you not to laminate. You can put the card in a plastic sheet to protect it, but no lamination.
My husband’s <1 year old Medicare card started coming apart last month. He bought a packet of clear plastic sleeves from Amazon at a very reasonable price.

@dragonflyvebThank you. I'll take a look.
My original post was really just a reminder, even to me, that new cards are coming and that we don't have to do anything or pay anything to get ours.

As I said to everyone here-we don't show our Medicare card to anyone. We have an Advantage Plan.
Apparently you do show the Medicare card if you have a Supplemental Plan. That "fact" is beyond my expertise since I do not have a Supplemental Plan. So for that I learned something, although it does not apply to me.
I also stated that this is OUR experience and appears to be different for some posters.
I also said it is no big deal.
I appreciate those who have other experiences with THEIR Medicare cards but those do not apply to MY experience.
Is this clear now?
LOL It's not the end of the world.

No, not the end of the world. But the world of Medicare can be very confusing, and there are posters here who take what other posters say as the absolute truth especially when something is said repeatedly and emphatically.
So I don't see anything wrong with posters correcting each other when something is said that is incorrect. I like to think that we're here to help each other.

@NYC Susan I agree. However, it's a card and the issue was whether you had to show it or not.
Oy. The maze that is Medicare and all the plans one can choose in addition is confusing but whether you have to show your card doesn't alleviate all the confusion.
I feel as though I'm being singled out just because I said I never had to show mine with MY PLAN. I don't know how else to say it because others said the same thing but I am the only one getting lectured. Again.
Already said it that I learned that those with Supplemental plans show their Medicare cards, even though that does not apply to me.
Sheesh already! LOL
Stick a fork in me I'm done. LOL

I think the issue is that initially you didn't say it was just your plan. You were insistent that Medicare cards only had to be shown if patients had no other insurance, and you argued with those who disagreed with you. You know about Advantage plans, but you assumed something about Supplements that was not true. Not the biggest crime, certainly! But I think we have to be careful not to speak in absolutes. Especially because there are people who get their information here, we should do our best to be accurate.
Hopefully we all learn things reading these forums, and I'm glad you did. I generally enjoy your posts, and I'm not looking for an argument. Just wanted to explain how all of this looked to me, and likely to others too.
I'm done as well! :-) Have a good night! :-)

Not true.
YES, it is TRUE!!!!
No, it’s not! Didn’t you read this thread??

YES, and you're STILL wrong. Advantage plan members do NOT have to show their Medicare card. Have a nice night and comprehend.
