CDC if that is a source you find credible also has mask guidelines.
Cloth mask: Do not filter anything. As you exhale, you are ridding your lung of contaminates and carbon dioxide. Cloth mask trap this carbon dioxide the best. It actually risk your health rather than protect it. The moisture caught in these mask will become mildew ridden in 30 minutes. Dry coughing, enhanced allergies, sore throat are all symptoms of a micro mildew in your mask.
The CDC reports on N95 respirator and surgical mask. There is a wealth of information over there to make an informed decision.

@Nancy Drew I’m also encouraged that the overall mortality rate has gone down with increased knowledge and more effective treatments. Unfortunately, we are starting to see the longer term effects of this disease. Surviving Covid does not necessarily mean you that you return to health and many people are suffering for months after testing negative, even those that weren’t hospitalized.
@tucsongal Where can I get the information this information you posted? I would like to learn more.

@Laura14 wrote:@Deree She said that about the masks that were not in short supply.
@pitdakota I think most of us believe that if someone is a medical expert cleared by ABC legal to provide medical information during a pandemic, we take the information at face value.
With all of the agendas going around in media today, it would be a full time job trying to identify them all. Listening to a quick segment while I am on my way and out the door to work is all I got. That's the same reason I turned it off and look where that lack of information has gotten all of us.

@Laura14, I have posted that multiple times and I stand by that. Worked too long as a nurse to know that neurologists know their stuff, OB/GYN know their stuff, cardiologists know their area.....but if you want an expert opinion from a phyisican, you listen to the ones this is their area.
They all have a certain level of knowledge about medical issues, but when it comes to serious matters...you listen to the ones this is their area.
You have a family member that is an AA right? Can you imagine an OB/GYN telling him whether a patient is a candidate for desoflurane rather than nitrous oxide? That is his area and they leave those decisions to the anesthesiologists. As they well should. They may have concerns & may collaborate, but the AAs are the experts and make the decisions about what they do.
So if you want information about coronavirus and what recommendations to follow? Listen to the public health and infectious disease experts. Not cardiologists, addiction specialists, OB/GYNs, etc. And they are all over the air waves with recommendation and information. Their only agenda is to do what they know to do from their experience.

@Nancy Drew, I have seen this debunked many, many times. Are you saying that you saw this on the CDC site? It's been tested and found not to be true.

Yes. I am confused as to why we are asked to wear mask when the CDC put this out themselves.

@pitdakota I would agree with you almost every time on this but no one is an expert on a novel virus and she wasn't reporting on virus. She was reporting on mask wearing. I understand specialties but I also expect an MD to have a general knowledge base that I can trust on general health matters like what a face covering can and cannot do.
I think all of our posts are proving my original point. When you have both sides of the mouth talking with mixed messages, people tune out. I did because who does a lay person like me know what to believe?
I don't have time for it with a full time job, burying relatives, and supporting elder family members. The media needs to get their act together and report more responsibly.

If you do a search for persistent coronavirus symptoms or chronic coronavirus etc. you will find articles from multiple sources. Obviously most of it is anecdotal at this time but I’m sure it will be studied.

I won't hold my breath on the media reporting responsibly. All they care about it stirring up emotions to boost ratings.

@Deree ...... No it does not answer my question. The powers that be were quoted today defending him so why not continue a practice that was started.

@Sheila P-Burg I cannot get into this further with you except to say... Too often nowadays things are said but are not really meant. I'm sorry but that is all I can say on the subject. I'm sure others here will understand what I'm trying to say.
ETA: Watch David Muir on World News Tonight. Perhaps that will explain.
