I always use a top sheet, because I have duvet on my down comforter, and don't want to wash that often.  I use Sferra sheets, wash in cold water, woolite with some Lysol sanitizer. Granddaughters iron them for me.  I am a sheet snob to the hilt, lol. Have to Supima or Egyptian cotton. Love Sferra quality. Oh my, I have found the younger generation doesn't know how to make beds, at least until older. All my grands as they got older and helped over here learned to appreciate a well made bed. They said they didn't know what they were missing,  my grandsons don't use too sheets, and when they have them they kick to bottom.

Re: New Generations Not Using Top Sheets on the Bed????

I use a top sheet because I love the feel of the cotton on my body.  I don't tuck the sheet in tightly and I often use flannel sheets throughout the year.  I prefer to be encased in cotton sheets and I have never found myself tangled in my sheets.  Doesn't really bother me if someone doesn't want to use a top sheet because I plan to do what I want and that is use a top sheet.

I mean, first of all the sheet on your body is cooling. 2nd...duh....you WASH it frequently...which you won't do with any comforter or topper of any kind.

Another dopey idea. #OkBoomer ps #Boomersrock Smiley Wink

I wash my quilt on the same day I wash my sheet/pillowcases. It's a king size, but thin and soft, and fits easily into my front load washer. I haven't used a top sheet in several years, and prefer it that way.

I'm more often cold than hot, but I have a faux fur throw that I use on top of the quilt, if I'm too cold.

Just because you and others do things one way @amyb, it doesn't mean it's the only way they should be done! It doesn't make us dopey, just different.

Oh, I learn new things all the time. Got your point, though. After I read through made more sense...its a choice.

Just curious...then you wash your comforter or blanket once a week @I am still oxox ? My washing machine won't wash a queen comforter. It just won't fit, so the top sheet keeps it fresh.🙂

@Trinity11 You can not be serious I do not sweat when I sleep

I have no words.😳

I just started reading this thread and I can't imagine never sweating while sleeping. I must use a top sheet.

It's a big problem with a lot of people who have foam mattresses.  I need to be in a cold bedroom and even if I wake up and the temp in the bdroom is in the low 60s, I can still be hot & sweating in the middle of the night!

I think it's because of all the duvets being shown nowadays. I always have used top sheets, but I know that my BFF (from Czechia) does not in her home.

I remember shopping with her one time and I was searching for sheet sets on sale and she said no sets for her because she had no use for the top sheet. She just needed the bottom sheet (not even fitted) and pillowcases. She said that they used duvet covers over their down comforters and just use that duvet as the topper. And she and her husband each had their own duvet for their side of the bed so they didn't have to share.

That was a strange idea to me then, but right now I'm using a duvet with cover - but I still use the top sheet underneath! It's a king size duvet, no separate ones for DH & I. With a senior pet (with an ocassional "iffy" tummy) it's easy to unzip the cover and wash it. My beautiful bed spread with all the pillows are put away right now.  Woman Wink

@Happy2BHere I had a duvet cover at one time but I found them to be such a PITA to get on properly that it's a top sheet for me.

Re: New Generations Not Using Top Sheets on the Bed????

Haven't read all!!! the responses but from what I have, I'm amazed at how much laundry some people must do.  We do not use a top sheet but the blanket that covers us gets washed every few months, not weekly.  We wear pjs, don't sweat much and the blanket is just covering me, I'm not putting it in my mouth.  Would certainly see no need to wash it weekly???!!!

Re: New Generations Not Using Top Sheets on the Bed????

I am actually washing my sheets as I am writing this.  I sleep alone and wear pj's and I never sweat.  My cat sleeps on her perch in my bedroom or somewhere else in the house.  I wash the pillow cases weekly, but not all the sheets.  I do use a top sheet.

I actually hate washing sheets, Queen size are bad enough.  If I had a King size bed my sheets might get washed every 6 weeks or so!! I guess I am not a germaphobe Cat Very Happy
