@Citrine1 wrote:@drizzellla Excuse my stupidity, but what does "picked" mean? You were attacked/targeted/injured on all of these occasions??
In my younger days I, too, worked in center city and was also short and thin like you. I always figured I had "victim" written all over my face because I was a nervous nelly and probably looked like an easy target. However, I never had an issues in town or where I live.
Yes, all of the above.
The worst was when I was thrown to the ground, face first. I hit the cement curb, my face was smashed in from my forehead to my chin. It was at a very busy intersection. I had to stand with blood dripping down the front of me into my shoes. Since it was such a busy intersection it took forever for me to have a green light, so I could walk the 3 blocks to my house.
I was attacked several other times. Once 5 teens decided they wanted my purse. So they all surrounded me as I was walking to Reading Terminal. It was 13th and Market. It was about 5:05 PM. I just got off of work and wanted to take the train home. I don't think they expected me to fight them but I did. And they did give up. Not sure what I would have done if they didn't.
I also learned NEVER to drive in Philadelphia with an open car window. Because I was assaulted by 3 teens. I was stuck at a red light. No where to move.
I could go on and on because I am remembering more incidents.

No - parents need to do their job!!
@ThinkingOutLoud You're dreaming if you think that's going to happen. Most of these kids only have a female parent. They're bigger, stronger and more determined than her so they do what they darn well want. And the parent really doesn't care.

Many are caught/let out without bail, and also never prosecuted. "Teens"? Probably let them off as "juveniles".
In New York I heard statistics that about 4,000 crimes were committed by less than 300 different criminals. Wonder why? I suspect the reason I typed above.

I know the grievance channels like to drone on about NYC, but the crime rate there is lower than other cities of its size and it doesn't appear anywhere on the list of the most violent american cities.
Total violent crimes jumped nearly 10 percent in large American cities between 2020 and 2021, continuing a decade-long trend of rising violent crime rates. New York is one of the nation’s most violent cities, and Chicago has become a go-to example for highlighting gun violence. Still, neither city was the most dangerous when looking at violent crimes per capita.
Among America’s largest cities, Memphis, Detroit, and Milwaukee all rank near the top for individual violent crimes. Detroit's murder rate dropped slightly in 2021, yet still ranks as the second most deadly behind only Memphis (with a murder rate 6X the national urban average).
Denver and Albuquerque emerged as large cities with elevated risks of rape. Houston posted the highest robbery rate per 100K citizens.
Baton Rouge, New Orleans, St. Louis, Memphis- smaller cities with higher crime rates per 100,000 than any others in the country.
Wonder why they don't get picked on by grievance news?
Oh wait, I know.

@drizzellla Thank you for your reply. My heart breaks for you for what you've endured and I'm so sorry that you had repeated issues. To think that some of these attacks took place at rush hour and no one came to your aid on these busy streets? How awful.
I'm not one to ride around with my windows down either, and wouldn't feel safe at a stop light without doors locked and windows up. I used to feel relatively safe in my own neighborhood, but not so much anymore. Having a dog, however,
makes me feel better.

When I was in my twenties, I worked in center city (Philadelphia). This was 40 some years ago. A co-worker and I were out for lunch, in the vicinity of 8th and Market. Crowds of people were everywhere. A man was walking towards me and grabbed my purse off of my shoulder, then proceeded to tell me how easily I could be a victim of a purse snatcher because I was carrying it incorrectly. So, I don't know if he was an actual purse snatcher who was being kind to me or just a guy flirting with me - haha. Anyway, I can't remember how he said I should carry my purse but, fortunately, I've never had mine snatched.

Well that won't help because they always find a way to get firearms, by theft, robbery or on the black market. I'm surprised that the authorities are saying report any white van beause ya know then the civil liberties people will be outraged. Back in '79 my parents had a jewelry store in Philly. In came 2 teenagers armed with guns. Yes, they killed my father, missed my mother and then fled with nothing. I had begged my father to retire because I could see even then where the city was going. My family moved out in '72 but my Dad was stubborn, felt everyone was a friend. So he stayed and lost his life in spite of having security measures.

Never heard of the grievance channels, care to fill me in!
"Wonder why they don't get picked on by grievance news"? "Oh wait, I know".
Reread my first sentence.
