I just received a call from Apple Care, telling me not to use my account until I spoke with a representative.  I am certain that this is one of the new scams out there.  If you have an Apple device, be aware.

It seems to go in streaks, one day I must have had 15 to 20 calls from " Apple " on my call log. Some days these scammers are relentless.

Thanx for the info.  We do have Apple Care so we'll be on the alert for phone calls.

Well... My credit card was compromised recently, and Citi Bank did indeed call me immediately about the fradulent charge.  They also emailed and texted me.  Great service.  The purchase was cancelled and I had a new card in my hand in 48 hours.
