Re: Neighbors shocked to learn 13 siblings held captive

Wonder how many made for TV movies will be made on this  crazy story?  I am sure many....the money made could help out the children  financially now that they are on their own.

Dr. Phil is for sure going to try to be the first interview...he always wants to be first. I can not stand the obnoxious man.....

These  poor kids are going to be used and hopefully not abused by the news/entertainment industries....they better get good lawers to help them negotiate the best deal for their stories.... that will fund their futures.

Re: Neighbors shocked to learn 13 siblings held captive

I was appalled at one of the pictures where they showed the children wearing shirts that were emblazoned with the word "Thing # ....   I assume that the numbers correlated to the sequence of their birth.

Can you imagine a parent referring to their child as a "Thing"?    That one little fact alone speaks volumes for the evilness of these people.

There isn't a punishment allowed on this earth that would make up for the brutal conditions that these children had to endure.

I know the death penalty is not on the table but in my opinion that is exactly what both of these sadistic people deserve.

Those parents will burn in hell....no doubt. No worries, it's been taken care of already. The plans have been set long ago when they did bad things. Their day is coming.

To me, this seems like straightforward BDSM (bondage, domination, submission, sadism, masochism) - only with children.  I wouldn’t be surprised if there was also physical contact in the mix.

Here's a link to an article LA Times. Sad the neighbours in TX thought of calling authorities never did. Seems they lived in constant filth just horrible conditions I can't imagine the LA home being any better from the descriptions by law enforcement.

Something I have not heard addressed is the births of the children.  Are there any records, were they born in hospital, home?

one thing that really bothers me is the aunt.  She was interviewed and crying, sorry she didnt get involved.  Nothing seemed odd to any of the relatives?  And the grandparents?  Maybe something was wrong with the grandparents, as they rIsed one of the Turpins, maybe they were abusive to mr turpin or mrs turpin to make them abuse their kids as well?  If my son or daughter gave those excuses to me about seeing my grandkids, I would have never stopped.  They could have even called CPS, and asked for a surprise home visit, if they called the child protection services in the Turpins county.  You can do this anonymously.  I would have even embellished my suspicions or concerns just to get them out there.  It may have taken a long time, the way CPS can take forever, but they would have come within a few weeks, maybe even sooner.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda...

Those poor little lives.  Makes you think deeply.

I just don't get it.  Vasectomies and tubal litigations are so routine these days.  Why did this couple choose to have so many kids that they were unable to love?  Makes absolutely no sense.

I feel for these kids and wish them all the health and happiness in the world.  The human spirit is resilient, so I hope they can eventually live normal, happy lives and put this all behind them.

@Topaz Gem, I don't think that we can apply any rationale that would make sense. It's possible that it was part of whatever beliefs they held or that it was part of  personality disorders on the part of either or both parents -- or a combination thereof.

Re: Neighbors shocked to learn 13 siblings held captive

I do not know the couple involved in this horrible situation, but see they have roots in my general area of southern West Virginia.

However, once the media focused on the fathers parents, and they released a statement thru their local attorney, I realized I know them from church.  I personally think the fathers parents are two of the finest people I have ever met in my life.   They are very involved in the church and are close friends to our senior pastor and his family.  When something happens to someone in our church family, this couple will be among the first to respond and try to help.   I see these two as true servants, and it breaks my heart that they have to deal with such horrible news about their son, DIL, and the grandchildren they love so much.   They are receiving strong and unwavering support thru the church family.

I saw a local interview by the mother’s aunt, and realized I also know certain members of her extended family.  Again, the family members I know are fine, upstanding people who live quiet lives in a small rural area of WV.

I cringe with each new detail that is released about this situation, as I know the pain it is causing local family members, and know they don’t deserve this horror anymore than the horrors inflicted on the innocent children.    My mind thinks along the exact same lines as many of you, but blame only the parents, not grandparents, siblings, aunts, etc.   Whatever we hear in the days ahead will never fix this horrible situation, or make it easier to live with for those closest to this drama.
