Neighborhood Fireworks...

[ Edited ]

I enjoy them...really I do...at night. However, I loathe having to listen to them during the days leading up to the evenings of the 3rd & 4th.

I don't understand/'get' the joy others have by setting them off during the day when you can only hear the noise...dahblink.gif

It makes me sad to see the wild birds freak out by not knowing what direction to fly since they are being set off in every direction. Additionally it sets my nerves on edge and most years I wind up having to wear ear plugs. Naps are off the table til after the 4th.

...it is what it is.

Ugh.

Re: Neighborhood Fireworks...

In my neighborhood, they go on all summer.  I was new here, last year, and was amazed.  I've grown used to it now.  If I had pets who got freaked out over the noise, as many do, I'd be more concerned.

@Susan Louise I like your emotie.  Please tell me how to get those for here.  I don't know how to do that. Thank you.

Re: Neighborhood Fireworks...

Aside from city sponsored fireworks in designated parks, they are not allowed in any neighborhood in my city. But people shoot them off anyway. Fines and possible jail time can be involved if you get caught.  I'm not a fan of fireworks and neither is my dog. We'll be happy when this is over.

Re: Neighborhood Fireworks...

We only have a few setting them a day before and after July 4 rth, so it's no problem.  They stop around 11 pm.

None of my dogs have ever been upset by them.  Not even barking, but then, maybe, it's because they know I like hearing them.

I despise fireworks of any type, perhaps because one landed on my daughter's face when she was quite young. Thankfully, people jumped in right away so no harm was done.

Re: Neighborhood Fireworks...

I, too, would be happy to do without fireworks.

While I'm at it, another thing that angers me to no degree is these things you see on tv (I hope people don't do this krap IRL!!) is when people let a bunch of balloons go into the sky.

There is no good reason for either of these things, as all they accomplish is damage.

Re: Neighborhood Fireworks...

I hate hearing the fireworks and seeing the mess left behind. My street gets full of the remains. Fireworks land on my property. Loud explosions go on and on.

All of our pets are kept indoors until this madness is over.  We bought them the thunder shirts and while it works for the dog the cats won't tolerate it though it's advertised for both.  Very comical trying to get them on to our cats.  Cat Tongue

Re: Neighborhood Fireworks...

This year we made several trips to Costco and stockpiled the large packages of paper towels and toilet paper to build a wall around the dining room table.  It's a fort for the dog.  Who does not appreciate the neighborhood noise.

This is something I wish people would leave to the professionals.  In our neighborhood we have a view of the city and can see several displays from the driveway.  There is really no reason for anyone in my area to set off incendiary devices on the block.

But they still do.
