Re: Neighbor’s House Paint

When we were building our home, the builder sent people by to look at our house for reference.

Many people took pictures too.

When we had settlement, I noticed pictures of our house on their board.  When I  pointed it out, our builder said he had quite a few people copy our color theme, even down to the brick, which we special ordered and roof tile.

Houses are like cars, many people choose the same color and style.

It wouldn't bother me if my neighbor had the same house color as I do...if fact, I wish one neighbor did.  Their house is an ugly color.  It is the color of pond scum.

I understand it might be annoying but I wouldn't let it bother me.  As long as they're keeping up with the upkeep of the house and landscaping, I'd be thrilled.  You ought to live by some of my neighbors.

Re: Neighbor’s House Paint

I think you have the right to feel however you want to feel but I agree that perhaps that fact that their house will be a color that you obviously love is a good thing, it could have been purple or turquoise (or as stated earlier ugly avacado green).

We don't have that issue as we live on a farm and have no neighbor houses to be an issue.  What I do have an issue with is the trend to dark, really dark, like black, charcoal, navy blue, etc., siding on houses.  There are several in our small town and they look spooky to me.

Re: Neighbor’s House Paint

All the houses on my street are brick, only the front doors vary. Front gardens are what matter.

If I were the OP, I'd feel as she does. It was inconsiderate of the neighbors to copy without consulting the original, and I would make them aware of my dispeasure. They should forget about borrowing a tool, a cup of sugar, or a friendly chat.

@River Song  Yes, seriously.  I merely said I found it upsetting, certainly not comparing it to a first world problem or a life threatening situation.  Just curious how others would feel.  As I said, it is their house and they can do as they want.  I was just surprised when I saw the same color as mine.

@Biftu Again, what color is it?  It must not be a common color like white or beige.

@santorini  It's a mid tone grey,  black shutters, and a deep burgundy door.

Re: Neighbor’s House Paint

We live in an HOA and are given 17 choices of color pallets and no direct neighbors can have the same color, a lot of people complain about HOA's but the neighborhood looks as good as it did when we bought in 96.
