@DMM05...I am in the same boat, self employed.  My premium is roughy $850.00.  I am thinking of going with MediShare, a Christian health network. You do have to profess to be a Christian, no smoking or drug use and attend church.  I know some people do not like the idea of this coverage (not insurance) but I meet the qualifications and the rates are much less expensive.

If you like the idea of this coverage google them and it will help you make an informed decision, and you can always call and speak with someone, which I have done several times.

One thing to keep in mind is they do not cover any pre exisitng conditions until you have been in their plan for 3 years.

If you don't mind, once you make a decision I would be interested in what you purchase.  I have not signed up yet for MediShare but will in the next 30-45 days unless something else pops up.  Good luck.

I just looked it up. Interesting.

Thanks.

I'm so sorry, but I thought OBAMAcare was there to help you?  Isn't that what we were told?  All of you who are on Obamacare maybe you could help her?

I'm sorry the OP did not respond to my question as to whether she was in CA.  I had information for her that would help if she was, or if they were nearby.

@NicksmomESQ Some employers are able to exempt themselves from COBRA. Mine did and I have some choice words for them, which I did pass along.

I believe she answered in another post (#13?) that she lives in PA. @Noel7

   @maestra Wow!! How can an employer get themselves exempt from Cobra? That's terrible that they can get away with doing that!!!!

can't give you any advice, just pay and it's not getting any cheaper.

I believe this varies by your income & where you live.

Paying on my own has nothing to do with my income, where I live possibly but not that much different crossing state borders.

Government plan is based on -0- income, went through the exchange and decided it would be better to keep what I got.  I used -0- on purpose.

Sad sad situation.

@DMM05

Are you talking about MEDICAL insurance?  If so, I would think the first thing to do is look into Medicare.    Are you still working?  If so, can you carry him on your insurance?
