Re: Need help IDing this thrift store find.

@house_cat   At that size, it seems like it is most likely an

ottoman. The design on the top, looks like an Aztec mandala.

   I would guess that it zips open to insert some sort of stuffing

and the zipper side sits on the floor. It may have the handle so

it can be moved .

  When I was a little girl, we had a round leather hassock, no designs on it. I think that it had two handles of leather on the sides. I was about four or five years old, but I remember sitting on it.

This is really beautiful....I love the designs.  But it is clearly not an art object, it is meant to lock up and secure something within the zipper. The secure safety is a mystery.  I'm curious and looking forward to the answer.  Thanks for this intriguing share.

I think @Zhills and  @sunshine45 have it right.  Google Abel Rios Leather Peru.  The extra security on the zipper probably helps make sure the buckwheat or other fill doesn't leak out.

My DIL found this item at a thrift store today.  We aren't sure what it is or where it was made.  It's leather and  seems like a piece of luggage, but we're not sure. Can anyone identify it?

That's it! Exactly!

She'll be glad to find out since she paid $10 for it.

Thanks to all who helped me solve the mystery!

@jackthebear

Below is the screen shot from eBay, in case the link is removed.  She has no intention of selling it, we just wanted to know what it was.  We suspected it was luggage of some kind.

@house_cat    I looked on Google.  It MIGHT be Vintage Andean Peruvian Leather Luggage.
