Need advice on living situation.

My DH and I have an opportunity to purchase our dream home. It's a downtown building with a loft. We have always wanted to live in a building like this. My dilemma is I have an aging Mother, who is well and living on her own and still drives. She is very independent. I have always thought when she couldn't live on her own anymore that she'd come live with us. Well, our loft on the third floor, wouldn't fit in this situation. I just don't know what to do.
