Re: Need advice on how to handle a sticky work situation

@I am still oxox

I am sorry you lost your job.  You've been given good advice on this thread.

Not all fired employees are eligible for unemployment.

No, not true. You are not guaranteed unemployment if you are fired. It depends on the reason you are fired and the employee does have a say and can contest a person's unemployment request (when they file), although most companies don't because it is alot of effort and requires documentation.

What you created on their time and related to their business is their property.  Taking it or not giving it to them would be considered theft.  Please don't get yourself in that situation,

I am so sorry you lost your job, you might want to keep things cordial, you might need a recommendation from them.

Re: Need advice on how to handle a sticky work situation

I lost my job that I had been at for almost 40 years!  They told me my job was being eliminated.  At that time, I was an officer of the company.  Was I shocked?  Of course!  Was I angry?  Of course!  And the way it was handled:  I was eating a cup of soup at my desk during my lunch hour, when my boss came in and said something like:  "You're not going to like this, but we're eliminating your job".  They offered me a severance package that I thought was inadequate.  We negotiated back and forth over a couple of days until a mutually acceptable package was agreed upon.  That was several years ago and I'm still very better.  But I left with dignity.  I asked to stay on a few days to turn some things over to my employees.  I did not want to leave my emplyees in the lurch.  OP:  Take the high road.  But it doesn't hurt to negotiate for better severance pay.

Yes but if you steal something, and they may consider what you want to withhold from them stealing, that could change.

If you were fired because the have 0 money, how do you expect to receive severance pay for 6-8 weeks?

I realize you are stunned and hurt, but return the company's property, file for unemployment, and move forward with dignity.

Actually you can be fired with cause. If that happens then you will not receive unemployment insurance.  It sounds as if at this moment this stipulation would not apply.

However, do not give them ammunition to use against you and fire you "with cause".

Thing is they have not even realized I have all the fires needed, when they do, I will be cordial and be charging them for my services, since I am no longer employed by them. I think this is only fair
